Hi i bought Kobi from a petshop that i have had bad experiences from like the cages arn't dirty & the birds aren't sick it's just they keep dying well anyway Kobi has been with me for a nearly a week & i haven't seen him eat or drink & i'm worried he'll lose weight & get sick or is already sick because i went to put him on my finger & when i pressed agraisnt his chest i felt the bone & i don't think that's a good sign.
What do you guys think???
He may not eat a lot for the first few days. Give him time. After he gets used to his new home he'll start eating more. Until then, if you're still concerned you might want to consult a vet.
Some tell tale signs of a sick budgie are: sitting puffed up, unformed or strangely coloured droppings, sleeping alot, reduced appetite, weightloss. If Kobi's showing any of these signs then it's probably a good idea to get him checked by an avian vet just to be sure. Pay particular attention to the droppings as they can be one of the first signs of a sick budgie (they should be target shaped, brown on the outside with a white spot in the middle). Budgies and all birds are masters at disguising their illness as in the wild a sick budgie is the first to be picked off by a predator. If a budgie is showing visable signs of illness then it's pretty certain that it's very ill and it's vital that they're rushed to an avian vet for treatment.
I Once Resuced A Sick Budgie And I Nursed Him Back To Health By Keeping In A Big Cage In A Warm Room And Gave Him Lots Of Attention It Worked For Me!
Yeah, you have to make sure to keep the room warm.

Hmmmmm. Gotta love it when budgies poop in their water! You could consider getting a water feeder like either one of these to prevent that problem:

Good luck with the poopies! I know that I have discovered them in some pretty weird places in my house.
Have you tried giving Kobi some fresh veggies? Grated carrot and chopped up broccoli are favourites among my budgies (and not to mention, good for them too!). Although, I will caution you, you have to be patient. . . sometimes VERY patient before your budgie actually eats any. The trick is that you offer it to your budgie every day regardless of whether or not he eats it. You can also try eating it in front of Kobi and he may copy you.
Oooh don't forget the CELERY!(Celery is a budgies best friend!)

My first budgie - 'Skim Milk' passed away 2 years ago. ( 'Skim Milk' was his name). From then onwards, I had 3 other sad incidences - so much so that they were not given names - just 'Hey Birdie'. What upset me most was that on every incident, I had seen a vet, and I was given the same reason - viral infection!
I couldn't understand how that was possible...my birdies never had any friends but myself and my mum.
I was not going to take any chances with 'Louis Pasteur'- my latest of 6 months. I followed my naturopath's advice and give him ionic silver mixed into his water. I've not had any problems so far. He recommended that I gave him some too, since I personally take it for my lung infections.
I get a low concentration 5PPM from Trueionics.
For the benefit of everyone, you can get get it at trueionics.com (http://www.trueionics.com)
With the Bird Flu and all, I am not taking any chances any more.
Better safe than sorry

Did you take your other birds to an avian vet or just a normal vet because if you did the normal vet would of had limited experiences with bird illness.
You should NEVER NEVER give your birds medications that are prescribed for humans regardless of who tells you. Medications we take are for us as they have different properties to the ones prescribed for our birds.
Please take your bird to an avain vet and get him checked out. Sorry if I sound hard as your best intentions could backfire on you and I would not like to see that
