Contest Ideas?

I think we need to have some more fun around here. So far we've only had one contest. Does anyone have any other ideas for contests? (Keep in mind that I am aware of budgie of the month contests, so please don't mention this.) What kinds of competitions do you think would be fun? If you have any ideas please post them as I think we're long overdue for a competition/contest around here.

If I can ever figure out how to make my pic files smaller I will post ones of my two home made playgyms... one is a big tree type thing about 2 feet tall with perches all around it and the other is what I like to call the summer cottage :D it is a window ledge sitting playgym! they love it!

I plan on having them more often. As long as you guys don't mind just having little prizes like Karma points and medals I could do them all the time. Maybe someday I'll be able to give away real prizes, but not now.

I'm not sure if I'd do that because the contests don't get a whole lot of activity yet. The caption contest turned out fairly well, but the Budgie of the Month contest gets hardly any activity. I might get three entries per month. That's no fun. Doing continual contests just makes them seem repetitive. But if I do one only every few months, they might get a better turnout.

On that note, I hope we get a better turnout this month for the BOTM contest, which will start in a couple days.

That is the case for some people for the BOTM contest, but the caption contest should be held as often as possible because it has variety- a different pictuer each time! Try tohold CC's more often, even though there is already one up right now.

All of these are great ideas. Like Dave said, we've got plenty of time to do a bunch of different ones...we just don't want too many running at the same time...we don't want them to get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday activity here on the site....but keep those ideas coming!!! :p

Maybe you can take a picture of where a budgie is talking and write "Talk Budgies" whether the budgie be talking to himself, a fellow budgie, a group of budgies or even to yourself

I think making a logo using the TALK BUDGIES name would be a blast but most of us don't have the software and know-how to make fancy logos and siggys like some of you. . .It wouldn't be a very fair contest because there would probably only be a few of you who are able to do this.

This would be a really good challenge for everyone and would be fun, all the other contests are to do with pictures of budgies so for something different it would be great, and everyone can go into different categories, like breeding,training,health, choosing the right budgie, lots of different categories xxx

Most members recruited = who can recruit the most active members in a given time. To be counted, the recruits need to post at least 5 posts.

Post hog competition = who can post more in a given ammount of time, they should get a prize or a blinkie or something for that, I can help. :). We post our post count when we start, then we post it when we finish.

Story competition = people post stories about a mod/admin chosen subject and get voted on later.

Picture competition = subject posted, for example: water, then everyone posts a picture having to do with their birds and water. Or nature and something having to do with their birds and outside nature. They get a prize at the end after everyone votes.

I belong to some other forums, not bird ones. They usually have contest that are of some sort of art or computer art. For example on the LOST forum they have had LOST Christmas art where you find pictures of LOST characters and then use computer graphics to give them a Christmas E look. Or for Halloween they do something similar.

I have seen contests for filtered art. You take a picture and then you use computer art filters to jazz it up.

Poetry contests which of course would be about birds and you can specify different things each month for the contest like only about budgies or about birds in general or serious or funny.

I would love to see a picture contest with the theme "Put your birdie in a movie". You can either set up a scene using your bird and props or you can take a picture of your bird and digitally crop and paste it into a movie scene.

What about something pretty simple and broad, in either photos or stories? So that more people can think they should have a go. Like 'Best Budgie Photo' or 'Best Budgie Story'. Sine people may not think themselves good drawers, but better photographers, or vice versa, so maybe something like 'Best Budgie Photo or Drawing'?

On other forums I've been to, there's been picture contests where instead of taking the pictures, you google them. There are different types, like "Cutest ____ [insert animal here]" or "Funniest ________", etc.

This thread is just brainstorming ideas for contests. The only contest that is going on is Talk Budgies All Birds Next Top Model:) and one that is always on is Member of the Month - The Mods (?) pick a member who has been helpful and is just a great member and that member gets braging rights and some karma (I think) :)

I believe I posted a thread regarding a contest I was thinking of having between the TBNTM ones. It's sort of a scavenger hunt/team thing. I'll look for the thread now, considering Next Top Model has just ended.

You know how in high school year books, they pick the top people in each category out of the senior class, Ex: best car, best eyes, most likely to become famous, most likely to become a model, most likely to be rich, most masculine, most feminine, etc.... I could name all the ones they did last year if anyone would like.

Is that just my high school, or do others do that too? I think it would be fun if we did something like that, but "TB Budgie Bests", with categories like: best hairdo, best dressed (not in clothes, of course, but their feathers!:P), most likely to become a model, biggest brain, best house (their cage), best comedian, best voice, etc....

I think it would be really fun if we could have a poll, and then the winners could submit a video or photo and we could compile a year book page for the Budgie Best of this round! :D or something like that. :0 OR... It could be like homecoming royalty, where we'd have a thread and members mention whoever they think should be in each category, then those mentioned, or like, the top 5 in each category could then submit a photo or video illustrating why their budgie is the best in that category! :D

You just posted in the competition forum.;) Contests that are put on and run by members other than staff are always posted in the Chit-Chat forum as they are not considered official forum contests and only staff are allowed to post in the competition forum.

Now that we have the new position of Contest moderator Phillip now has access to post up contests in the competition forum. So now any contests that meet with his and the rest of the staff's approval will be official forum contests and posted in the competition forum.:)

Budgie Book Contest:

All you have to do is make a book(can't be one of those baby short books I mean like a real chapter book) about a budgie(could be yours, could be someone else's, could be made-up). I don't think there should be a limation or a maximum since you should be allowed to make it what ever you want. But it must be about a budgie but besides that sky's the limit.

Yes Debbie, Budgie of the Month is returning on June 1st.:) We have re-vamped and revived it and I am looking forward to hosting this contest.
We have kicked around the idea of also having other birds and other pets join this competition. We may assign a month or two with that option in mind,. For starts though it will be our beautiful budgies so look for my announcement coming on June 1st:):)

That's so cute! =] I'm not sure what my budgies have for talent .. though I'd have to say Louis is the best chewer I have ever seen. She can go through cuttle bones and rip toys like there's no tomorrow =]
