Go for the finest one - the canary/finch one. :)

My budgie eats Kaytee, though it doesnt have pellets in it.

Check the back of the bags and make sure they have all the same everything in the same order if they are (I mean all the ingrediants on the back in the same order aswell) either one should be fine.

I give my Budgies the smallest pellets, since they are quite picky on what they want, so I try and give them something as small as a seed. Give your budgie to smallest pellet size.

My other budgies can eat the bigger ones, but this one cannot, or cant yet. Eventually when he is older he will probably be able to eat the bigger size, well not the biggest but the medium size:). But for now I will get the finch and canary size. Can anyones budgie eat a big size pellet?

i would get the smallest kind..crumbles or nibbles i think its called... i wouldnt go bigger than minis for a budgie.
I feed my tiels roudybush or lafebers... too be honest whne i had budgie i never fed my budgies pellets only seed and fruit & veggies.

also just out of curiosity, why do you want you birds to eat the biggest size pellets they can possibly eat?........they dont have to eat the biggest one possible aslong as they eat it, thats the main thing right?

I think with Zupreem they judge sizes by saying what kind of bird they are for.

Oh no I am not trying to get them to eat the biggest size. I just meant that in the food I am feeding now "Kaytee Fusion for parakeets" they have three different sizes that they want budgies to eat. And the largest size in the bag is too big for him,and same with the medium size. And there arent that many pellets that are small. I mean the large in this bag would mean small for bigger birds.

Also since the food he is eating right now is pellet/seed mix,and it is alread mixed together, how should I go about the conversion? Should I still mix the new seeds and new pellets in with them? The seeds I dont think really matter, because I think they would taste the same to him. And the pellets might as well, because they are both fruit pellets.

give it a try without mixing, they might go right into eating it. if they dont then you will need to mix old with new

That what I was thinking, he might just eat the pellets. Should I just mix the pellets or the new seed also?Because he might just see the seed as the same thing. Thats what I was also thinking with the pellets, because they are both the same flavor.

He really isnt taking to it like I hoped. I put the new pellets in his cage, and then just put a little of the new seed on top, he ate the seed, but not the pellets. Right now he is out of his cage, and I put the new pellets in a cup right in front of him, but he is not eating it.

My question is since he is taking to the new seed readily, should I just mix the new pellets with the new seed? Or should I mix it the new pellets and seed with the old pellet and seed?

i would add a little of the old pellets to the new seed & pellets. no old seed

Thats the only problem Im having. Because "Kaytee Fusion" already mixed the seed and the pellets in the bag when I bought it, and I cant really seperate them, it would be impossible to.

then just mix old with new, more new than old and gradually add less old :)

Alright, oh I have another question, I have two pounds of new pellet and 2 pounds of new seed. Could I mix them both together just like the kaytee bag came? Or is it better to keep seperate so I can put more pellet in the diet? Oh if I need to put more pellet in and I already mixed the seed and pellet, I could just get another bag of pellet from the store and have the diet be more pellet that way.

But for now would it be ok to mix new seed and new pellet? So the diet would be 50/50?

i would mix it as you need to... that way you an play with the percentages

50 50 is good for now

how is the rest of their diet? veggies/soak mix etc.?

So your saying not to mix the two together?

I dont really know what you mean by soak? Right now I am only trying to convert one budgie,I just got him. I layed out a selection of fruits and greens yesterday for him out of the cage. He really sat in front of the food for 30 minutes and did not touch it, he ate maybe a bite or two of the greens when I first layed it out.

He is pretty picky, my other budgies ate fruits and greens first time they were offered :).

dont mix it all together, mix it as you need it, you will be changing percentages later,so you dont want it all 50/50 now.

soak mix is under the nutritional section. the reason i ask is if you have birds that are already eathing fruits/veggies/soak mix, then you can be stricter with the transition, go 75/25 and even 100% new. they wont starve since they are eating their other food, but since you are going just on the seed/pellet, you will have to go gradually.

if hes not eating go 40/60 and see how that goes.

Alright thanks for the info, I'll go switch the food cups now to 40/60.
