Hi!
The nest boxes have been in place for 3 hours now, and my budgies are showing more attention to one another than I have ever seen! The girls are actually approaching the boys and trying to connect beaks!!!! Both pairs are actively doing this!!!!
I'm so excited as I am a newbie to this whole thing! My 3 year old keeps asking me if there are any babies yet!
Deb
lol...yea it is exiting!:) Hope you have some good luck!
They are regurgitating! This is a good sign, It is a bit too early to see eggs yet and mating takes a few attempts, but Good luck!
Lol we posted at the same time!
I hope they mate! That'll be exciting. :D You'll have to let us know how it goes. :love2:

Well, Red and Patty are checking out all the nest boxes together, Patty sticks her head in while Red sits by her side talking softly! If Patty's cere was any darker, you would almost think it was black!
Ray on the other hand is still trying to win over Selma, and he seems to like mating with one of the fluffy toys that is in their cage. Shoud I remove the toy? Doesn't he know there is a girl who likes him????:S
You should remove anything that side-tracks the pair.

I hope they decide to "use" the nest box. ;) It sounds like a whole soap opera going on with those birds. :P

Thanks for telling me about taking the toy out! Since then there has been a lot of regurgitating between Ray and Selma, and Ray has been dancing and chatting to Selma all afternoon!
Red and Patty are still doing their silly mating things too. Red doesn't seem to want Ray anywhere near Patty:mad: , he jumps at Ray if he comes near her (Ray just jumps away from Red). Is this normal? They aren't fighting, just like Red is stating his claim to Patty.

Well, Patty seems to be spending a lot of time in the nest box while Red stands guard on top of it! She hardly even gets out when I walk by! However, Patty was trying to mount Red, so I think they may be a little confused! Oh well, we shall wait and see.:o

They are all about 2 years old. Red was tame when I got him, he much prefers to live with the other budgies (esp. Patty). He wil still okay and not afraid when I reach in the cage, but won't come out alone.

Can't you seperate the pair that's mating that might incourage her to lay.
No it won't because she needs to mate sucessfully before she can lay, and she has to mate for each egg and she will get very upset being separated.

Well, everyone seems ready to make some babies, but there seems to be some confusion over who's going to use what nest box. Sometimes it appears that they are happy with the one that each female has chosen, but at other times, they are fighting over one (not really fighting, just sort of chasing each other off of it!) The girls happily sit in their own nest boxes alot, but again, they still try to get in the other's box as well.
Is this normal? These birds are so confusing! Maybe I just have too much time on my hands...

Oh, are they all in together? If so, you should separate them, but I thought you meant separate the pairs!

They are all in together, but there is no more bickering (phew!). Selma seems to be spending all her time in the nest box now. She frequently visits one, and occasionally visits another, but she is really hangin out in 1 particular box. Ray sits guard watching over her. She doesn't even get out when we come in the room anymore! Red and Patty seem to have chosen their nest box as well, so hopefully this is good news! Still LOTS of regurgitating, and budgie dancing!
Boy this waiting game sucks!:)
Oh. I See. Budgie dancing? What?!

You know, budgie dancing! When they run along the perch bobbing their head and fluffing up their feathers? At least the boys do this, and the girls seem to like it!:p
