I have a male budgie that is recessive pied, he is pretty much all yellow with green on the lower part of his stomach. It was really weird, the other day I was reading somewhere about how someone had a budgie with dark red eyes. Well I was playing with him just a minute ago, and the light was shining on his eyes, I noticed they are red  . It was really cool, and weird that I just noticed this, I have had him for a long time. Now that I know he has red eyes, could he still be recessive pied? Usually his eyes look all black. I know there is a name for budgies like this, but I cant think of it. Can someone help me with the color of my budgie?

You're budgie seems to be a recessive pied, so I don't think it has any possiblity in having red eyes. All I know is that recessive pied budgie's eyes are dark plum colored, so the color might have been lighten a little while the sun shined in it's light making it appear red. Fallows and Lacewings are known to have red eyes, but your budgie doesn't fit their description, but it does fit the description of a recessive pied.

I dont know if he is fallow, because it says that the markings on fallows are usually brown, his are black.
I dont know maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but I will get pics of his eyes tomorrow.

true about the brown, i cant see the colors very well in the photos.
fallows and albino/lutinos are the only red eyed ones i can think of, but as you all know, im useless with mutations! lol

Here are some pics I took this morning. You cant see in the pic, but again when I was looking at him is eyes were very dark red. Instead of a white iris ring it was somewhat black, and the pupil, or the black part of the eye on normal budgies, was dark red
a little blurry

My Budgie has the same thing I just checked her. It looks red, but its not, you saw the outer part of the eye to look red and the middle part is black, when its just a light plum color. In pics my budgie eyes come out red aswell.

Oh I see thanks for the clarification. I dont know what his parents were, but do you think he could be carrying the ino gene, or something close?
You think he looks fallow? I really havent looked at him that way, but if he was fallow, he would have pure red eyes just like albino/lutinos right?

Recessive Pieds have plum eyes.
Here this might help I got a Recessive Pied description and a Fallow description see which one matches your budgies
Recessive Pied
Recessive pied budgies have, in general, mostly clear feathers on all areas except the rump, which remains the original body color. In general there is a patch of normally colored body feathers near the bottom of the belly, with the rest of the body feathers being clear. Where there are marked feathers on the wings, these feathers are half clear near the top. The wings can have anywhere from a lot to very little marked feathers. The feathers on the head are mostly clear except sometimes for patches near the eyes and top of the head.
The recessive pied budgie's eyes are dark plum colored and never lighten with age; they always stay dark. This is how you can be sure a pied is recessive pied, since the dominant pied's eyes lighten normally with maturity. The cere of the male recessive pied also does not change normally. Adult male recessive pieds have purple ceres. Adult female recessive pieds have the normal white/tan/brown ceres.
Fallow
There are several types of fallow varieties, but in general, the fallow's head, wing, and tail markings are brownish. The body color is gradually diluted and is most visible on the rump. The eyes are red (some varieties do not have a pink iris, others do) and the cere of the male fallow does not change normally. Adult male fallows have purple ceres. Adult female fallows have the normal white/tan/brown ceres. This is a very beautiful specialist variety and is only seen in exhibition budgies.

Oh thanks alot for the great info, I always thought he was a recessive, the only time I questioned if he was or wasnt was yesterday, because I have never seen budgies have plum eyes, so I guess I just thought they were red:D
