I have noticed that people are wondering if some of these games, etc. are being created so that individuals can just get their post count up - by posting lots and lots of posts on a continual thread.
If you will notice, it doesn't matter how much you post on a thread, your post count does not go up. You get ONE increase in your post count (the first time you post on the thread) after that, you can post and post and post in the same thread, but your count does not change.
I think this is a very smart way to do things, considering the fact that there are those who try to abuse the system. After all, posting is suppose to be for the benefit of HELPING others learn more about Budgies. To post, just to increase your number of posts, is totally overlooking the reason why this forum was created.
And for those of you who are posting a lot in the games forum - (just to have fun) . . . Well, HAVE FUN!!!
Donna
Urm.. Donna, every post you do counts up to your total, if you do 6 in one thread, 6 will get added.

I think games that are fun to play and for users to enjoy in pleasure is ok. I don't think pointless games work though very much, they do seem very popular and slightly annoying but a game is a game I suppose. :o
But what you are saying Donna can happen, a admin can disable post countings to go up in a certain area of the forum. I've seen it done and happen with many boards, they mainly disable it for chit chat. ;)
That would work, but just for games is best. Because then piccys of like other birds, and general chit chat wouldn't count, and a lot happens there. Just games I say. :P

Yep I agree Amy. :) That way we can still have fun and play them and no one can be accused of playing them just to gain posts.

I just play the games because some of them are fun, I don't do it to higher my post count. Even tough I play the games I still go to check the threads to help people that need it.

That's very good of A-n-M. :)
why do people want higher posts anyways? i dont really get it, :\ this whole site is supposed to be fun, and theyre just ruining it by making it into a race of posts or something of the sort.

Same thing with karma.

Hmmm it is right. :) I don't really see posts or karma as big privileges as they are just nice simple ad-dons for the community.
It's the quality, not the quantity.

I was one who made a comment on the games and posting :o
It was just weird on the games.. especially the Count to a Million and Last to Post wins... I just don't see the point :S
I like playing the game where you say a word and you must think of a word that starts with the last letter of the word before... that's use of vocabulary!

Ha I play those games for the fact that we with small minds find it amusing. I also enjoy playing the decoding pig latin game. The number of posts isnt a big thing its just fun. If the point of the site is as you said to help learn about budgies and share stuff about them then the post count doesnt matter. Henceforth we can play our silly counting games and last post wins.
Abusing Karma is a bad idea though. That shows how helpful you are.. you can abuse posts but karma is a no-no... a big fat yucky nono.

I'm not sure what you mean Amy. From what I keep seeing, a person can post numerous times in a thread but they only advance one post number throughout the whole thread. Check it and see . . . You can post 10 times but it only shows your post count as one more than when you started in the thread.
I was only addressing the post count topic because I have noticed several people being concerned about others abusing the post count. I have never stated that I think people are using it wrong. I am only bringing it up because I've seen others question it.
I think some of the games are fun also, and I know many people enjoy playing them. Anyway, I hope people haven't taken me wrong, because of the post count issue. I just thought I'd let people know that they can't gain a ton of posts by posting a lot in the same thread.

Amy and Joe is right Donna, if you post 10 times in a forum you get that many points added to your total points xxxx :)

Under normal posting conditions, your post count DOES go up each time you post. But go back through this thread and you'll see what I'm talking about.
If you look at Amy's first post in this thread you'll see her post number. It doesn't change throughout the whole thread. The number stays the same. So I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say it goes up each time you post.
If you are posting in a different thread each time, then your post count goes up. But check the same thread when you post more than once and you'll see that it stays the same. At least that's the way it shows on my computer.
Maybe it's not registering correctly on my computer, but it never changes on mine when you post more than once in the same thread.

The last time I posted on here sweetie my post count was 3,455 and now it is 3,456 xxx

What do you all see for my post count? I started at 872 in the beginning of this thread. Every time I've posted it's stayed at 872. I just looked at my last post and it still says 872. This doesn't make any sense to me.
DMY said that they went from 154 to 155 but then I looked at that same post that they said that in and their post count actually said 157. Go figure . . .
Oh well, I guess I'm wrong and mine just isn't working correctly. Maybe I should have tons more than I'm seeing. I know I post LONG posts so maybe it is correct. But why do all of my posts in the same thread stay the same?

That is strange sweetie, obviously our points stay the same unless someone gives us karma, but our posts do go up when we are replying on threads, even multiple replys on one thread. I think what would be good Donna is if our post count only goes up on threads that we have made ourselves, I think it would be much better, I have done a fair few threads but not that many lol xxx :D

That does seem strange Donna, a post count is supposed to count each and every post you make where it be as many times you post in a thread or not.

The reason it is the same as all your other posts is because when u make a new post the number changes on of ALL the post you have before that post...does that make sense? So if you go to your first post it will have the same number as your latest post.

Its a post count, not a thread post count. Its supposed to count every post you make every single one. I do see that yours doesnt seem to go up o-o; Thats odd. With my computer every post I make my post count goes +1.. if anybody could help explain why its different for people? Cause I've got nothing. Im confused now aswell.
EDIT: Hozie07 is correct -went back- I see now that my posts number changes in past posts aswell.

Thanks everyone, for your explanations.
That does make sense. Hmmmmm, I guess this was all for nothing.
Oh well, let's just say that we all got our workout for the day. Great work everyone!

I also made the comment about post count. Even though it shouldn't matter to lots of people it does in a way - they want to get to the next level and stuff like that. I think disabling post count in the games area is a great idea.

That's exactly how I saw it as well. And yes, disabling post counts in games will definitely be good.
I play games too, not singling people who play or anything. I play This or That and the vocabulary game. But the last two games made me wanna scratch my head a little.

I like all the games but I guess I see yours and Beas point, I think disableing the points on the game thread may be a good idea, but it doesnt really bother me that people may use the games to get their points up, I honestly dont think thats whats happening, the games are fun and thats why I go on them xxxx

When you reach a certain number of posts, you go to the next level. Some people see this as more importance than actually making the posts to help others.
I like playing games on here, especially Zarrion's new one "Who/What Am I?" It's also great when you have nothing to do and the forum isn't very active at the time :)
That's why some of us are suggesting that game posts do not count up to our entire post count.

No offense to anyone, but the game Count to a Million, that I keep seeing when I click New Posts... I just don't see the point in it. It's basically shouting out, "If you want to raise your post count, type in numbers!"
