Okay this might sound stupid, but there is a blue capped conure I have really wanted to purchase. No one else was going to buy him, they all want sun conures (cuz they are also very pretty) since no one was going to purchase him (Delorian thats his name lol) I thought i would wait and buy an adorable budgie first because i heared they are great starter birds and can be very friendly (and OFCOURS i new so very much much about them. I've had my little Tuffy the budgie for a couple months now and he's great! but i thought i would stop by the pet shop to see the conure. HE WAS GONE!! it was horibble. The next time we came to the store to pick up some cat and dog food we ran in to the very nice latey wo worked there and showed us the conure in the first place. Since she knew us so well and new we wanted to buy the bird she told us the truth about where he was. (NO ONE BOUGHT HIM :D) so some sicko of a guy came in the store and completly cut off all his tail feathers! he did it hoping he would get a discount!!! HOW HORRIBLE! but as pure luck he wasn't badly injured just the vet's not sure if they will grow back. They let us see him in the back room, and he looks VERY silly. Just like a chicken all his tail feathers are gone. BUT they told us since they really trusted us if the vet said it was OK. they might be able to sell him to us :) the poor little thing. He's so cute still! U say no, and he says "what?" lol.

-if any one know's how to treat a bird with no tail please tel me, cause now more than ever my family is willing to take him home, if we don't no one can, and he will live in the back room forever! (althought the people who work there spend ALOT of time with him cause he's so awesome) :D

First, I want to say that Delorian is such a beautiful name :)

It is very horrible what that guy did to Delorian, just cruel, especially to get a discount. What was he thinking?

I'm gald that Delorian is okay. If the guy just cut off his tail feathers (which I wonder how he managed to do it without anyone noticing) then most likely, the feathers will grow back after a molt, hopefully.

If Delorian's entire tail was cut off, then it's needed to be treated.

There could be a balancing issue for Delorian since their tail is kind of used as an umbrella on a tightrope, but I think he'll do just fine :)

I hope that he comes home with you soon, he'll be very lucky :)

Oh my gosh! That guy is a jerk! I'd like to knock some sense into that head of his! That is downright cruel!

I am so happy you and your family will give this sweet bird a home if the vet deems it to be okay. As far as caring for a bird with no tail, I agree with Softie in that he could have balance issues. In that case, it may be important to keep his wings clipped so he doesn't take off and end up with a crash landing. Any idea how far up the tail feathers were clipped? If there was damage to the follicles, then it is possible that the tail will not grow back....

What an idiot.. I hope that Delorian's tail will grow soon! It's so nice he found a family to belong and to be loved. Please let us know about his tail and his mood! Thank you!

I have 2 Budgies who have no tails. They will grow it back after they molt, wait for spring/summer time in your area. Balance does not seem to be a problem for either Budgie, both are fully flighted, 1 I just allowed to grow his wings back and while clipped he had no problems. Take the bird to the vet if you're totally concerned, if it was clipped too far back the vet may be able to pull the feathers and then wait until they completely grow back. It will take months though. I suggest a cage with low perches and easy access to food if you're going to clip his wings. Put some towel on the bottom of the cage so he does not fall and hurt himself.

my budgie's tail is messed up too and he's going through a molt, but it's winter down here is that wierd>?

her tails is back again, and shes in condition (duhhh is friggin winter??? lol) but she looks good again

her wings have some really like colors tho, and her back is a very nice colored green! I love green i'm hoping on getting a green budgie one day, so tuffy can have a friend, but he's going through a molt, and i can't find any good aged budgies, that look like yours, so not for another year or something. But i love her coloring

I always thought she was a normal green, but one of the mutation experts said she was something, but i dont remember what lol
