Bailee scared the **** out of me tonight. At about 7:30pm i gave him his evening feed and he was happy and perfectly fine! Then i went and did some vacuuming as a suprise for mum and when i went to check him after that he was COVERED in blood and so was everything surrounding him (toys, cage floor, cage bars, brothers walls, carpet). The rest of the family was out at a xmas eve dinner (i was baby sitting all the pets) and so i was all alone! I was so scared!!! Anyway, i got over the initial shock of seeing my little baby soaked in blood and took him to the bathroom to stop more blood getting on the carpets. I raced to the kitchen and got some flour and then i started to rinse him off with warm water so i could find the source of the blood. I eventually found a little cut on his left wing which was bleeding really badly. I put my finger over it and applied pressure for about 5mins before trying to cover it with flour. It just bled through all the flour i caked on so i put pressure on it for a while longer and then put more flour, it worked the second time. Since then he's been in the shoebox he came home in because i didn't want him in his cage where he could flap and open the cut again.
I just checked and fed him now - i decided that he'd like some comfort food and that the moisture in the mix would be good to help hydrate him a little. He's now snuggled into his box in my room. I put a face washer on the bottom to make in softer for him and more comfy on his little feet during the night. I'm really not sure what to do with him tomorrow because he is a HYPERACTIVE young boy and nothing will keep him still. I can't sit him down and tell him that he can't flap around in his cage because he'll hurt himself, wish you could teach them to listen to good advice. I'm wondering how i can make his cage 100% wing safe so it's ready for him by tomorrow - what i might do is line all but the front with towels (on the inside) so he can't hit against the bars... does that seem like a good idea?
