View Full Version : punishing?
ok, well just today for some odd reason my femal bird started to bite me. Shes somewhat tame i guess, she allows me to hold her on my finger, i guess you could call it pettting, pet her on the back, rub her tummy, but today she out of nowhere bit me. I was wondering how do you punish an untamed bird? or a tame on even. I tried saying no, firmly but it just seems to make her more agitated. help?

You shouldn't punish birds, just don't react the the bite and pretend it never happened. If that doesn't work you could try lightly pressing on the beak, or blowing softly.:)

Yes do not punish your birds. Saying something in a strong voice or even being physical can be a huge threat to your bird.
do not react. Sometimes my birds bite me. Lucky for me, (and my slow brain) I can't feel it until atleast 2 seconds after. I just let them hold on until their done.

Apparently stroking a female bird on the back and even on the stomache can put her into a breeding mode, so if hormones are acting up, she is grouchy because of that. In any case female birds do have a tendency to be moody. :) It will pass, just learn to recognize the signs and don't push her when she is in that state of mind. She may have been trying to tell you that she wanted her space at the time and you missed it.
