View Full Version : Indy & Elijah babies!

:)Hello Everyone!I would like to introduce my lovely budgies Indy & Elijah.We recently recommenced the breeding season putting the nest boxes back in and we have our first clutch!Indy laid 8 eggs all together.The first one #1 hatched on the 11th Oct & we were thrilled:DThen 2 days later on the 13th #2 and #1 looked so big already!Then on the 15th nothing hatched,I was a little down but so happy for the 2 babies!Plus there was still 5 eggs...sure enough on 17th,19th & 21st 3 more babies hatched giving them 5!With 3 eggs left and days passing we decided that was it & the other 3 must have been infertile but after the nest box becoming a bit mucky we noticed that 2 eggs had gone a dark grey colour we removed them. Out of 8 eggs she had laid she would have had 7 babies as 2 were DIS.Although it was sad I wondered how she would of coped.The oldest baby is now 19 days old.Indy is a very good mum & doesn't mind me adoring her darlings every morning & afternoon!They have all survived & are growing very fast!I am so over the moon:rolleyes:Now we are awaiting to see who will look like mum & who will look like dad!I only have recent pics of 3 babes as the other 2 are still naked LOL I didn't want to take them out for photos yet,but as soon as they get some fluff I will get some.:DBy the way Elijah is recessive pied & we think Indy might be hiding it!;)I have mixed up the pics 1)Indy & Elijah 2)When they first hatched 3)Baby1 4)Baby3 & 5)Baby2.

Aww how cute :) 3rd baby looks like a normal cobalt and the last baby looks like he/she is coming out like your rec pied.

They are growing so quick!They got purple split rings on today:)Babies are in order & are 22,20,16,14 & 12 days old.Sorry was a bit too close with flash for baby 4:o

New pics of all 5 chicks!
Chick #1 is a normal blue,just like mum:)
Chick #2 is a recessive pied,just like dad:D
Chick #3 is a recessive pied opaline :)
Chick #4 is another normal I think :)
Chick #5 is still mainly fluff but I think it might be opaline to:D All happy & healthy bubs!

Is it possible yet to tell what sex your babies are? Do you intend keeping them all or do you have new homes planned/lined up for them?

I do know that if I had a female budgie, as well as the cage space and time to care for everyone, I'd be extremely reluctant to part with any birds I bred!

I only know the opalines are female because daddy is split for it!I am keeping them all I have an aviary just for them when they fledge & I have 5 children all up so they each get to name one:D

Aww!! What lovely babies! Have they been named yet? I am glad you are keeping them; how big is your new aviary?

It is a large outdoor one next to our main aviary,we are waiting to see what sex all the babies are before we let the kids name them.The 2 opalines are girls but not sure on the other 3,I will post pics in the breeding forum to see if the experts can tell me:D
