Ok well i bought a hand-fed budgie on wednesday. Since he is hand fed he isn't really scare dof me, he'll come on my finger we i press on his belly( most of the time he'll jump right back off).
I just wanted to know, how can i get him to actually LIKE me lol, and come on my finger and not flying away. I've only had him for a short while, so is it just time or is there anything i can do to speed up the process lol?
Also i kinda bug him/her a lot. I put my hand in the cage and try to get him on my finger, most of the time s/he doesnt want to. Will this make him/her not like me ?
Thanks.
I'd clip her wings and spend lots of time with her outside of the cage. I've never found the slow and steady "at their own speed" method works well on baby budgie because in the time you're leaving them alone to 'settle' they're getting cage clingy.

well they are clipped ( not sure if they did it correctly ). I've been taking out of its cage a lot the last 2 days. I take him/her out of the cage (it's hard to get him/her out lol) and bring it where he/she can't see the cage. He/she stayed on my finger a while, walks around and tries to fly, but when i put my finger in front he/she almost always gets back on :).
ok so now i know what im doing is the right thing. thank you :)
Yea just keep on holding him when his wings are clipped and soon he will come right up to you when you are near his cage, and jump onto your finger...lol...good luck!:)

my budgies wings are clipped but he/she can still fly pretty far and high for about 3 seconds and then just falls down. i dont think they clipped them right.
Can you post a pic of how they look?

That's a lovely pic, I think they did do it wrong, not to worry, when the feathers grow back you can get it done properly.
Looks right to me. The feathers look neat and both sides have been done. :)

I agree with Bea, the clip looks good. If you are concerned that your sweetie can't fly well enough, next time consider having fewer of the flight feathers clipped. :p
Oh well it's just that I've never seen a clipped wing before, so I'm wrong!

it looks to me like they clipped all of the feathers instead of just the first 5-7 on the outside of the wing. Am I right? Its hard to tell without pulling the wing out and looking for sure. the problem with this is that they can injur themselves when they drop cause thay can't slowly lower to the ground and also they can't get as much exercise as they should... my trisket was clipped like that as a baby by the pet store that I bought her from and she is now after a year finally learning to use her wings like the others can.

I think they may have clipped too many.

hi :p
i took some pics of dewey for you to see properly clipped wings. she is a perfect candidate for this because I just did hers a couple of weeks ago, so there is no regrowth to confuse you. along the bottom of the wing are the flight feathers. from the outside in, the first 7 are the primarys and the rest are the secondarys. you only want the first 5-7 clipped. if you clip the secondarys then he/she will fall instead of glide to the floor. by the look of your pic, who ever did it cut all of the flights and left the primarys too long by a bit. but they will grow back in and you can do it properly the next time around so no worries, just try to avoid falls untill then. I hope this has helped :D
ps- you can click on the pics to make them bigger
Yeah they do look right.,to me.

lord I am so confused when clipped feathers. I would need someone in person to spread a wing out and show me several differentimes before I got it.
It's just that everyone explains it differently slightly which confuses a novice.
