I am worried about Zafu still. I was wondering if there
is an antibiotic that I can purchase to clear up Zafu's
respirtory problems?

She clicks & wheezes. She also gets insainly hot feet &
she hasnt even flown or pooped. It's just her illness I think.
It doesnt seem life threatening right now, But it would be
so uncomfortable, as I have asthma & understand how it feels
not being able to breathe properly, & getting out of breathe quickly.

So is there an antibiotic I can buy to help her clear up the illness completely?
If not I will have to deal with the costs of a normal vet, as Im sick myself
still & strapped for cash atm. Also avian vet is over 1 1/2 hour drive away,
which doesn't help as I also cannot drive atm.

Thanks. Anyone had a bird with this & fixed them all up?

You should wait for people to get online first, everyone has their other lives to live. :)

I think the best thing you can do is go to the vet.
Because you don't know how serious it is or if the meds is specific.
It must be hard being in your position. Maybe there's another pet expert or bird lover friend you have that you can call up and bring Zafu to the vet. I hope you manage to heal Zafu's illness soon. :)

I know people have their own lives to live, I was saying it in the
sense that this must be a hard question for people to answer
without knowledge or experience with their own fids.

I will wait to hear a couple of opinions, of not I may have to pop
over to the "normal" vet & see what they can do. Why are there
not many avian vets around I wonder? I hope I can help her soon.

I am sorry that Zafu's is ill, but the best advice anyone hear can offer is to take her to see an avian vet. An anti-biotic for humans and non-humans can and should only be by a qualified doctor. She may need something other than an anti-biotic that only a vet could diagnose.
If you are unable to get her to a vet, I suggest you try to call one and see if you can get some advice from them on how to proceed.
Good luck and I truly hope Zafu gets well soon.

I'm sorry that Zafu isn't feeling well.:(

It can be dangerous giving a bird medication without a proper diagnosis. You would also need a diagnosis to know what specific medication you need and the correct dosage which is usually determined by the weight of the bird. I agree that your best course of action is to take Zafu to an avian vet. Clicking and wheezing are not good signs..Zafu could already be quite ill and trying to hide it the best he can. remember that usually when we can visually see illness in a bird it is already quite ill.

I hope Zafu will be okay. Please keep us updated.

Pepper has a chronic problem that generally manifests as squeeking when stressed or flying and sometimes is worse than others. She has two problems causing this. She seems to require more iodine or has trouble processing it and sometimes it has been complicated by an infection. She had a long symptom free period after treatment with iodine and antibiotic. If I get lax with the iodine, she regresses and from time to time I wonder if another course of antibiotic should be given.

Bottom line, vet will have to help you out, otherwise you are guessing and taking your chances.

I just want to mention too that if you give to high a dosage of a medication it can kill your bird. This is tricky stuff.

i'm not sure how old this thread is but...i'll give you some tips anyway
1) steam, run your shower and place the cage in the same room
this will help her breath
will not solve the problem but will be a soothing
2)chamomille tea, i have found this very beneficatcal and you may wish to give it a go, i allways have it in the cupboards in case of an ill bird
to find out more...
