I caught Tweety and Silent Night doing what I think mating is. Is mating when one budgie is on top of the other and they are doing a back and forth motion and the bottom budgie puts her tail up slight if yes do you think I should get them a breeding box and our cage is small, not small put lkong not wide wat should I do ?

yes , this is mating.
How old are your budgies?
Do you want to breed?
have to read about it?
If your cage is small , and you dont / unsure about all the responsiblties ahead dont put in a nest box ;)

Budgie breeding season is whenever conditions are right in regards to both your birds and the environment. So if they are mating, it could be the right time. However, first i would read the breeding stickies and follow some breeding journals to get an idea of what goes wrong. I have bred lots of babies and i still lose eggs and babies. You have to be prepared so you can minimise any problems and understand why other problems might occur.
Always keep the health of your birds a top priority. Breeding is fun and a great learning experience, but it shouldnt be done at the expense of your birds just for your entertainment. Prepare yourself and your birds, and it should be a great experience.

We would love to see a picture of Tweety & Silent night, The recomended age is over a year old for females so yours will be good, we have just been through our first season of breeding we tried Colony breeding, we only had a few minor setbacks in the first clutches, 13 eggs hatched out of 22 eggs layed in 4 nests, 9 were infertile, we had no Dead in shells. Unfortunately 2 died a day or two after hatching but 11 out of 13 are going awsome and we have so many nice colours. all are now out of the nests except 2, they fly out at about 1 month old or so. 2 of our females are laying a second clutch and seem to be in good nick. It has been one of the best adventures for our 3 daughters and so exciting to see the little ones grow so quick:D I wish tou all the best. there are plenty of good tips on this site. its been a great help to me.
