Does anyone out there have any websites/suggestions on building your own nestboxes? The only ones I can find near me (Acton, Ontario) are the large metal ones. 1 of my pairs of budgies is ready to breed, and I don't really have the money to spend on one of the metal ones ($35 +).
Why not buy a wooden one on eBay or something? They only cost around £5.
Are you talking about the nest boxs or a breeding cage? You should be able to get wooden nest boxes very cheap, about $5 canadian.

Where on earth have you found nest boxes for $5 canadian? Even on ebay they are $7.50+ US, plus shipping which I know is usually expensive. I have asked for shipping quotes from various people, but no replies yet. I am located in the Toronto area and am willing to drive an hour or so if I could get the nest boxes cheap!
Aren't there any pet shops around you? Most pet shops stock them.
Its easy to build themb but ebay is great,in the petsores they sell for high prices.15 to 20 $ Canadian.
GOD! That is RIDICULOUS!!
That much money for a bit of wood! LOL LMAO! Dear me!
Yeah I bought mine from a pet store for my 1st one I paid 19.99 Canadian and for the 2nd one I paid 19.99 Canadian!!!!!Plus tax.Now I just build my own.
Good idea, maybe you could tell us how you do it?

Hi all,
According to 1 local pet store, NOBODY has any budgie nest boxes, every distrbutor is out of stock. Then I went to the local pet store that I really can't stand (because I was desperate!), and VOILA! They had beautiful wooden nest boxes for only $11.99 canadian! I have put them in my cage, and my budgies are already checking them out (only from the outside, but still, I am very excited!
Thanks for everyone's help!
Deb

I found some great ones on eBay. They cost $9.95 each plus postage. I bought 10. They also sold extra concave blocks. Well-made boxes. Wood IS expensive but postage is higher! :-(
Tom
10! Woa! Do you need that many?

I just checked out the nest box construction page that Kalps so kindly linked to above. This is a very good box for budgies. If you could modify it, somewhat, so that it would include a concave block on the bottom, it would be ideal.
When I raised Javas, I used budgie boxes with great results. I'm going to have to try my hand at making some of THESE boxes now.
Thanks Kalps.
