Hey everyone my budgie (peeko) is almost 5 years old and as of about 1.5 weeks ago, has been getting worse and worse. She won't put any pressure on her left leg ,letting it dangle while on a perch. Also, the nails on her left foot are turning black. There is just a bit of feather loss too. I have another, older, male bird who seems to peck at her lots of the time when she tries to eat and I'm wondering if this is a product of malnutrition. (I feed my birds fruit/veggies and regular seed all the time) But, if she isn't eating, are these symptoms that would develop because of that or is it something else? I have already bought some vitamin solution for them to put in the water, I don't know if it'll help though...
Thanks for any suggestions/advice. =)

Aww, poor Peeko. It sounds like something is wrong. Do you have an avian vet you can bring her too?
It might be a good idea to separate her from the male if he pecks at her....and especially if he is keeping her from eating. When you separate her, it is much easier to tell how much she is actually eating too.
I'm sorry I don't have any other suggestions. A vet visit is probably the best course of action.
Please keep us posted. ;)

I agree, you should take her to an avian vet soon so that you can get a proper diagnosis and treatment for Peeko.
5 years actually isn't very old. A healthy budgie that's been cared for properly and kept in a clean and happy environment can live 10-15 years. :)

I agree with Bugiekin. She doesn't sound like she's doing too well. I'd take her to an avian vet and seperate her from the male for two reasons. One he's pecking at her, which most likely means either he doesn't like her or knows that she's weak. I've noticed wild birds picking on the sicks ones. Two if she is sick I wouldn't want him to become sick too. I'm sorry that I can't tell you what's going on. I hope she feels better. Keep us posted.

Ok, thanks everyone. I should be able to go to a vet this weekend and I'll separate them tomorrow. =)
