This afternoon I looked in the nest box and surprise surprise a egg. She must have just layed it. I have put the babies from the first clutch at the bottom of the cage and they seem to be eating and looking good. The youngest is 28 days old. The 2 oldest I moved to there own cage and they are getting along great. Wow I didn't think she would lay more so fast. I wonder how many she'll have this time?
September 9- egg # 1 today
September 11- egg #2 today
September 13- egg #3 today
September 15- egg #4 today
September 17- egg #5 today but she or I think Daddy broke 2.
September 19- egg # 6 today but only 4 left.
October 3- egg # 7 today but the males been out of the cage since the 18 of September so am guessing it can't be fertile.
October 5-egg # 8 today and Sky was back for a few days. I hope she stops laying. One baby hatched and 1 egg fertile and other 1 isn't old enough to tell.
October 7-egg # 9 today. Is she ever going to stop.
October 9- egg # 10 Ya that's right another egg and since Sky was in the cage for a few days I am not sure how many are fertile.
October 25- Another baby tonight.
October 30- Another baby today

That was great timing, I would love to see your most recent pics of the chicks they must be 6 weeks old. I hope mine go a second round with a different male, I love the different colours that come out:D we have more males than females in the aviery

Well now there is 2 eggs and she is going to lay a third today. I moved the babies from the first clutch to a different cage to give these parents a break from babies for a little while. They are all eating and getting around the cage great. I was surprised she started a second clutch so soon.

I'm surprised she waited so long, actually. My hens always seem to start laying their next clutch when the last chick is about 1/2 grown. Yours has better timing than mine do.

I guess I was lucky then the youngest is about 4 weeks and eating and getting around great. I just didn't realize that she would lay more so fast.

Well I got up this morning and there was a egg in the bottom of the cage. I guess she tossed it out during the night. I candled it and it looks clear. I am wondering if it is infertile and that's why she threw it out? the eggs is only been layed a few days ago. I put it back in but she has pushed it away from the others.

Now there are 4 eggs and so far the egg she threw out is in the nest box but they been moving them around like crazy. They both been in and out of there and sounds like they are playing soccer with the eggs. Not sure what is going on.

Well there was 4 eggs and they broke 2 . I cleaned the nest box out and got rid of them and put the other 2 back in. I think they are infertile though as they where pushed away. They are also a off white colour. Like the 1 from her first clutch that didn't hatch. She looks like she is going to lay more. Guess i am playing the waiting game. lol.

FYI, you won't be able to see veins and tiny beating heart until at least 3-4 days after being laid. Until then, all eggs look clear. Keep us posted about your second clutch! :)

Well I can tell that 2 are fertile and 1 I am not sure, but the fouth is clear but only 4 days old. I'll check again in a few days. She is alone in the cage and comes out to eat and is sitting on the eggs. Hope she will do well when the babies come.

One thing you can do right now is next time she is out of the box, add some millet and possibly some regular seed to her nest box. I sometimes do this even when both parents are still together and ALWAYS do it once chicks have hatched. It saves her a travel for food and she only needs to leave to poop and stretch.

Well it been 18 days since the first egg was layed and no babies yet. Two got broke and I didn't number them so I am not sure what egg was first. I used a flashlght and checked the eggs. Two are a clear yellow colour and 2 are fertile. So it could be a while if these are the last 2 she layed.

Well no babies yet but think that it's the last 2 she layed that are fertile, so should see some by wednesday or thursday. But she layed a egg today. Now the male has been out of the cage since the September 18. So I am guessing that this egg can't be fertile. Not sure of budgies repoduction systems.

Well I had put Daddy back in the cage and he was good for a few days. Then when baby hatched he threw baby out of the nestbox . I took him out and will leave him alone tell baby is grown and out. She also laid another egg. So far there is only 1 other that is fertile so will not know about this new egg for a few days. I was worried about baby but this morning her peeps are good and loud. Sounds nice and healthy.

So I just had a peak in the nestbox and she has pushed some eggs away. So she seems to be sitting on 4 eggs and the baby. The baby is looking bigger and much healther now. We where worried it wouldn't make it because Sky threw it out of the nestbox and it had a big red mark on it's head.

I have a cock just like that. Plays soccer with the eggs until they break and then he goes "oh look, broken egg, better not let it go to waste, I'll just eat it then shall I?".
He did it last year after first round went perfectly. Second round he just started acting crazy, pushing the hen off, trying to sit on the eggs and not letting her on them, then kicking them around until they broke and eating them. I tried him again this year and about a week ago his partner laid her first egg at lunchtime, i checked again at 4pm and it was gone. GRRR.
Its a shame cos he is a big english YF1 violet cobalt. So I will have to AI him and foster the eggs.
I will never let him into a breeding cabinet again.

That was just what he did. I thought maybe because it was so soon after the first clutch. He just wanted her out of that nestbox. He is in another cage with my other female. Not sure if I will breed them and let him try again after a break or just forget it. He was so good with the first clutch. I am not sure what happened.
Tealc40 how many of the 7 are fertile? Congrats on the baby.

If he is anything like my cock bird, I would not let him breed again. Won't let him anywhere near a nest box anymore, he's a bit too disturbed for my liking! Eggs are NOT soccer balls!!!

So far 3 have hatched but, there was a bit of rivalry with other females as she has the box in the sun, one of them killed the first 2  then i saw a massive fight with Pixie and crackers, So i took 2 females and put them in seperate breeding boxes with thier mates and fortunately the 3rd is ok, by the dates i reakon the last 3 could still hatch in the next few days. The dramas of colony breeding :( One of the positives was 11 babies in the first clutches they are all well. :D

Well the first baby is almost 3 weeks and I was begining to think that the others where not going to hatch. I was sitting there and thought that I heard a new little peep and sure enough there was a baby. I think that 1 other is fertile. What a size differents. I hope baby 1 doesn't hurt baby 2.

That chick has had the down feathers plucked. Be careful if the hen or cock tries to pluck pin feathers, its nasty.

The baby is fine. It has not been plucked but Dad did throw it out of the nestbox as soon as it hatched. I did take the Dad out and was worried that it would live. So far it seem good. It feathers are coming in and it is very pretty. My daughter has named it Faith, as we didn't think it would live. The new baby is a day old and seems fine, but I am worried about it getting stepped on. Kim I'll check out your journal.

Dear Debbie05, congrates for your babies but its sad news that some of them were killed by other crazy female ....its the problem of colony breeding, Only one stupid crazy hen in the flock can make the hole mess/trouble .......... i had a kind of similar problem but thanks God its ok now, i am lucky that observed at the beginning and solved right the way ...u can read my journal and can get some idea about the adverse situation and how to easily solve it.
Good luck for ur lovely chicks
