So what are some good ways to get some seed addicted budgies to eat their veggies!

I've so far tried carrots, peas, strawberries, apple chunks, and brocolli, most to no luck. They do however, love applesauce mixed in with cream of wheat... yeah, that was just on a whim, and it worked. So now I want to try mixing other fruits and mashed veggies with the cream of wheat (for some reason I think they like the teture... but they sure make a darned mess on their perches after eating it).

I'm trying to think of some other creative ways to make their food or how to present it to them so that they'll eat it. Or want to eat it.

Any ideas?

You can get a bird version of cream of wheat called Cream of Tweet (by a company called Beak Appetit - it's an american company and i'm yet to find somewhere to buy it in Australia but i've heard good things about the products). You could try steaming some veggies and then mashing them. If you mix some seed in they'll pick at the seeds and get the taste for the mash (which all my birds LOVE by the way). You can do the same with grated carrot and mixing seed in - i've had great success getting my birds to dig into their carrot this way. Mostly it's just about persistance. Keep offering things daily and eventually they'll probably try it - but it can take a long time and most people don't have the patience. :P

If they like cream of wheat, try some of the other grain cereal, like a 7 or 12 grain type. I think that kind is marketed, so it should be easy to find. Try corn, using the frozen kernel kind is fine. It can easily be thawed by putting hot water over it and then draining. Check the tempurature after so it is about room temp.
