Interesting story how this nesting box was started. Crackers:evil: our evil egg cracker layed 2 eggs deserted the nest layed one more on top of another box so I put that one in with the other 2 and then on the 24th of July Rainbow started sitting on those 3, in the end i put crackers and her mate in a seperate breeding box in my daughters room:angry1:. Rainbow however is a great mom she started laying her own eggs on the 28th of July she laid 4 sitting on 6 one of crackers eggs were cracked so i took it out.
19 days after the 28th first one hatched (B2) Ive called them B1 B2 B3 B4 etc as we have 21 eggs in the Aviery so B2 is Rainbow & Dazzles first hatchling, B4 was hatched today its day 3 today at 4:30pm all is well and both babies have a crop full of food:happy4: Rainbow is the Yellow & Green one she has 2 difined colours on her chest, Hopfully her babies will too Dazzle is the purple one awsome colour, one day i will study the genetics of breeding budgies to find out what is passed on & how. The photo in the middle is rainbow with the 3 eggs of crackers which i dont think were fertile by the dates of the first hatching. if all of rainbows are fertile 2 more are due this week:D I tried a video but it wont load even from photo bucket:mad:. I will keep trying If anyone knows how to change videos:S.

Rainbow & Dazzle are doing well as parents, another one hatched today:clap: Thats 4 , I sure hope they get thier dads looks he is a great bird. He is protecting them from my vicious camera :scare: There are 2 eggs left, I suspect they are Crackers abandoned 2 (Unfertile). Next round of breeding I might # eggs to see but ive enjoyed some of the not knowing, Hoping, then joy as they hatch:o, I saw on another thread an example of a chick hide what a good idea. Ill have to make one. when the chicks are a bit older i will start to handle them for 10 min or so each arvo, Should I bring them inside with the parents? or do that in the aviery? The parents arnt trained, will they freak out if i take thier babies away from them for 10 minutes:scare: I have many questions :o
So B2 born 16th Aug, B4 born 18th Aug, B5 Born 19th Aug, B6 born 21st Aug (today) all doing well :spin:

I decided to call B2 Nudge cause he/she is growing so big he nudges His little brothers & sisters out of the way :twothumbs: he is even bigger than B1 (Mork) who is a day older than him (in another box). Anyway All 4 are still alive going well but i reckon Nudge is pinching most of the food. scoffa:rolleyes:

Its day 13 since the first egg hatched, check out Nudge(B2) I noticed a bit of yellow on the head :fingerx: I hope He/she is multicoloured, Mum has the 2 tone Chest:cool-smiley-025: But I am really excited about B4 with the red eyes and the yellow wings He/she has a light pink head not the same as the other 3. What is that called ? :hammer: Is that Albino???????? I will have to read a book on Genetics of Budgies:embarrassed: We are so happy here none of our babies that hatched have died :jumping1: We have 8 all together  The 4 of rainbows are growing well and look like being a good mix of colours:happy4: I have learned to distract the parents with thier favourite Grass seeds to handle thier babies:D

They're so cute! B4 is a Lutino girl, that's why she's got red eyes and no markings unlike her siblings. Congrats!

Thanks Jen, Thats exellent. because we were trying to name her the kids decided if it was a boy we would call him Gilligan:laughing: But if it was a girl they wanted Ginger (Which seemed to match the Eyes) I hope she never goes on a 3 hour tour:laughing: I have a feeling that she will be one of the ones we dont give away.

They are so cute and getting so big. I have moved the babies to there own cage and Dede has layed 2 eggs and maybe a third today. I will for sure remove the nest box or seperate them early so they don't have time to start a third. lol

I had to seperate mine at almost 5 weeks as Dady would not leave them alone. I was afraid he was going to hurt 1 . So I put them in there own cage and watched them for a few days. They are doing fine and at 5 and half weeks 2 of them went to there new home. They are great and doing fine.

Today i was home for lunch & I had a look in the Aviery, I saw the cutest little green thing flying around Gilligan was finally out of the box:D he looks a little bit like nudge on the wings but his head is not as yellow and has a slight blue tinge on his lower chest. Bubble gum is the youngest he has black wings like his mum. Ginger is beautiful (lutino) I will definately keep her for next years breeding :budgie: I will find it hard to let Gilligan go too:o I guess this is the end of this thread.
