Well i just bought a new very nice budgie. He is bright blue and looks perfect on the outside. He/she is a very young budgie, i don't think you can tell the age yet.
The problem is that when i touch his chest i CAN feel his keel bones. I mean it's not like sticking out like crazy, but when i slightly press on it i can feel the bone. I read in some places that thats a really bad thing.
Is it something i should be worried about? Also could it be because its very young.
The cere is mostly white with a bit of bluish pink around it. could anyone tell me what they think it might be, i think its prolly a female.
SO should i be worried about feeling the keel? please help me.
thank you
If you couldn't feel it i'd be more worried cause that would mean you have a VERY fat budgie. :p It's only a worry if you can see it poking out cause that means there's no fat on it at all.

thank you both, i havn't been able to feed it though, we'll see tomorrow if it eats, its kinda skinny but the keel doesn't stick out i can just feel it when i press ligtly on the chest. Also its wierd, the person(who sold it to me) told me its too early to tell the sex. But ive done some research and im pretty sure its a girl.... i really hope its not seriou lol i really like this one.
i even gave it brokoli, lettus and i put its seeds right at its mouth and it doesnt touch them, ill see if it eats later.:)
Don't expect too much of her yet. If you only just got her then she's probably still settling in. My new budgie Ozzie didn't dare touch veggies until he saw Blinkie munching on some brocolli....now he can't get enough of the stuff!

lol! i love your bird some are really funny, i had a great time looking at the pictures.
well right before this one i bought a recessive pied (not hand-fed) budgie from the pet store. After i did some research i realized it wasn't the kind of budgie i wanted. So i traded it in for a handfed original budgie about 4 days later (today).
I'm really happy with this one now, i like how it looks, its more active and less afraid of humans. The thing is the other one ate from the first day i could even hand feed him on the second day lol.
i was just a bit surprised that it wasn't eating.
ill post some pics tomorrow.
New budgies often don't eat the first day. :) Ozzie only ate at night for the first few days he was here.

oh ok, i was trying to put the food in his/her face today and i said "eat" and he/she ate for a bit and then wouldn't. I have to show him/her where the feeder is now. Theres some food on the ground now.
Is it seed or husks (Empty shells) on the ground?

Things always start out slow with new budgies.
Yes I remember with Bobby the same thing happened!
