I've heard the requests for higher signature limits, more PM space, etc. With v2, you will get all of this! However, you don't just get al the added space immediately. We (the staff) have worked out a system of member levels, based on number of posts. The more you post, the more you get!

To make things simple, we've only created four levels. Below is a description of each and how much of what they get.

Registered Users
Minimum Posts: 0
PM Space: 50 (unchanged)
# of users PMs can be sent to at one time: 3
Gallery File Limit: 1000 (unchanged)
Avatar Max Size: 85x85, 50 KB
Signature Image Limit: 300x150, 60 KB (unchanged)
Max Characters in Signature: 10000 (5000 not including markup)
Max Number of Lines in Signature: 3
Max Number of Images in Signature: 3

Standard Users
Minimum Posts: 100
PM Space: 75
# of users PMs can be sent to at one time: 5
Gallery File Limit: 1000 (unchanged)
Avatar Max Size: 100x100, 50 KB (unchanged)
Signature Image Limit: 400x250, 60 KB
Max Characters in Signature: 10000 (5000 not including markup)
Max Number of Lines in Signature: 5
Max Number of Images in Signature: 3

Advanced Users
Minimum Posts: 1000
PM Space: 100
# of users PMs can be sent to at one time: 10
Gallery File Limit: 1500
Avatar Max Size: 120x120, 60 KB
Signature Image Limit: 500x350, 60 KB
Max Characters in Signature: 10000 (5000 not including markup)
Max Number of Lines in Signature: 5
Max Number of Images in Signature: 3
Can Have Custom Title: Yes

Veteran Users
Minimum Posts: 5000
PM Space: 250
# of users PMs can be sent to at one time: 15
Gallery File Limit: 2000
Avatar Max Size: 150x150, 60 KB
Signature Image Limit: 500x350, 60 KB
Max Characters in Signature: 10000 (5000 not including markup)
Max Number of Lines in Signature: 5
Max Number of Images in Signature: 5
Can Have Custom Title: Yes

As you can see, a big chunk of this is dealing with signatures. This usergroups are not meant to be easy to get to. You must post to get to the next usergroup. However, this is not an invitation to start making short, unnecessary posts to get to the next level.

As you know, I'm open to suggestions. If you feel something should be changed, let me know. Any new features introduced will have this system included in the permissions. (Speaking of permissions, there are no "hidden" or "secret" forums for upper members. Everyone still have full view of all forums.)

EXCELLENT Dave. :) You were on about this for a while and you and Budgiekin have done it out well. I think it will be great ;) When does this come into action or has it now?

It already has. All users have been moved to their appropriate levels. :)

Also keep in mind that upgrades occur hourly. So, if upgrades occur on the hour (example: 11:00), and you reach 1000 posts at 10:45, you won't be upgraded until 11:00. So please be patient. :P

I see, that's brilliant. :) I know I am Super Mod and my private messaging goes up to 100 but will mine go up to 250 when I reach 5000. I know it's a huge step ahead but it's hard to see where the user levels applies to staff, if they do.

So then i can use larger sigs now??? *jumps up and down excitedly* FANTASTIC!!

Does the image limit mean that sigs like Amy's made up of tiny images aren't allowed?

Dave
12-11-2006, 06:37 PM
If you can combine them into one larger image like you did, that's fine. But the limit is 3 images, no matter what the size. I think, although I'm not sure, this includes smilies.

So Amy needs to modify her signature then...

Dave
12-11-2006, 06:46 PM
No, I just haven't gotten around to editing the staff usergroups yet. I wanted to get the member usergroups done first. Editing the staff stuff comes after all the member-related stuff gets done.

Donna

Anna, if you don't mind me answering for Dave, you are just fine and within the guidelines of your level.

Your Avatar can be: 120X120 and right now you are at 100X75

Your Signature can be: 500X350 and right now you are at 193X86

I think there is an option in your user panel to switch them off if you like. ;)

Dave, I found out, I can only send 5 people a PM at one time. Not 15 as stated.

It's ok, I worked it out, I'm in the staff usergroups, not the member ones! :P

Yes, I haven't gotten to those usergroups yet. :P Sorry.

And also, as mentioned, there are options in your User CP to disable viewing signatures and/or avatars, for those who wish.

Under your username, it currently says Young Budgie. Well, when you have the ability to create a custom title, you can change that to whatever you want (within the rules ;) ).

I am not sure if I understood it all, but it's normal when something changes. I suppose I have to decrease my signature? I'll go again to the first post to read one more time the rules!

Dave, It's so annoying because my current avatar size is teeny, but some people have bigger ones. When will you get the staff ones done? :P

I think Dave's attitude towards the sig req is excellent than most. This is because on one of the forums I go to, sigs were not allowed and if you were caught using them, you were probably IP banned.

PS: Does TB IP ban members?

Yes, Talk Budgies can ban IP addresses if and when it becomes necessary.

Yes, we have done so in the past with trolls and such. But when we ban regular members for breaking rules, they're not IP banned. However, we do have the ability to do this.
