cooked pasta, but without the sauce
oranges
tomatoes
popcorn, plain
carrots
cooked chicken(not positive though, I know you can give them cooked turkey)
toast (whole grain is best)
lettuce

Not sure about the onions, or if you can give plain orange juice, I have seen it in recipes.

and can i bath them with a tad of saop or bubbel bath stuff to play with?
No, the soap would be harmful to the budgies.

They can't eat: pasta/with sauce, ice cream, lickerush, beer, fude, apple juice
apple sauce, smarties, O.J, milk, fries, pizza, popcorn/non salted or less salt, chocolate, peporoni, onions, fish, fish and chips, chips, fish fingers, chicken wings, salad with oil/nuts/viniger red wine viniger

Plain wholemeal pasta with NO SAUCE is ok, a little tiny sip of fruit juice won't hurt them once in a while, popcorn is fine PLAIN so no salt or butter at all. Anything not healthy for us isn't healthy for them. Chocolate and alcohol are actually toxic to birds. A nibble of plain chicken occasionally also won't hurt - it's a good source of protien for them.

Don't use any soap or bubble bath when bathing them - it's not safe to use on birds.

*edit* Oops, Julie beat me to it!

Bea, I've seen apple sauce in budgie recipes, is that not OK?
It is but only if it's got no sugar added. I didn't list it because i don't feel it's necessary and didn't want it to seem like something that should be fed all the time. ;)

You can leave the apple skin but apples are a fruit that are usually sprayed with A LOT of pesticides so unless it's organic i wouldn't.

I read that you shouldn't give them apple or kiwi seeds. Does this apply to all other fruits? And can I leave the apple skin or do I have to peel it?

I'm pretty sure you can leave the apple skin. :)

basically anything thats bad for you is bad for them. pasta sauce isn't good for budgies, plain pasta is fine. Pasta sauch has preservatives sugar and all kinds of other things budgies shouldn't have.
Never give your budgies (or any other pet for that matter) Candy (chocolate licorice smarties... etc) or Alchohol. These things slowly damage your system and a budgies system is a thousand times smaller then yours so it damages faster...

I think the onions are a no as well. Not sure where I read that, but apparently it has something bad in it. Also no peaches, though I note it is listed as okay above. :S I also was under the impression that sage is not good.

Alicia,
wholesome human food that is good for you should be fine for your budgie. No dessers or snacks unless of course they are healthy.
i.e for dinner tonight we had chicken mashed potatoes and green beans with salad.I offered Birdie some mashed potatoes with green beans and some romaine lettuce withoout the dressing.Does tha help any??Oh my daughters had ice cream but Birdie got some millet!!!;)

i ment can my budgies drink v8 juice ?

Budgiekin
12-11-2006, 11:52 PM
I would not recommend feeding your budgie V8 juice as the sodium content is very high in those types of beverages. That amount of sodium is not neccessary, nor is it healthy.

You are better off feeding your budgies fresh foods; they can be served cooked or raw, but just make sure that any fruit or veggies are well washed. Never feed them processed foods.....again, those are very high in sodium.....

As treats I would stick to millett, kayte treat sticks (or something of the like), fresh veggies, and fresh fruit. Nothing canned, nothing jarred. The preservatives they use (ie sugar and salt) arent good for anyone...
