after finding out that my 2 budgies are now girls i was wondering has anybody tried borrowing a budgie for breeding? would they have to have time to get to know each other or would they mate soon after putting them together. also what bedding do you need for nest boxes? thankies :) bye:budgie: :1zhelp:

hi they would definately take time to get it together and the male plays a big role in the rearing of the babies
I have actually had the mother die once and the father raised the babies on his own

for nest boxes u need a breeding box with a concave bottom u generally dont need nesting material

Also if the borrowed budgie came from somewhere with more than one budgie you would have to quarantine it in a seperate cage/separate room for at least a month, then a few weeks for the pair to bond, another week or so for eggs, another 2.5 weeks for the eggs to hatch and then at least 6-7 weeks for the chicks to be ready to leave dad. So all up that's about 4 months you would need to borrow a male for...
