I don't have any experience in breeding budgies, but I did want to say welcome to the forum! It is always exciting to have new members join. I hope you enjoy it here and find it useful. :p

Hey there! Welcome to the site :) . Like Budgiekin, I don't have any breeding experience. If you do decide to "borrow" a male (which I'm not sure is a good idea or not), just make sure he's healthy so he doesn't get your budgie sick!

Hi. Welcome to the "club." Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Re: borrowing a male. There are several factors, here, that might work in opposition to your plan. You'll probably hear different opinions on these, too, but I've always found the following to be true for ME.
1.) There is a very slim chance that a tame budgie will breed. If it does, there is an even slimmer chance that he will be tame again. Added to the tame vs. wild breeding issue:
2.) Budgies are colony birds. Six seems to be the magic number that makes up a flock. I don't mean three pairs....just six birds. (Obviously, one has to be a male and one a female.....in breeding condition, etc.) I've tried only one pair several times and have had no results. I've tried two pair with the same lack of results. When I added two more birds, bingo...results.

I'm not saying only one pair won't breed but I am saying that in my 50 years of breeding budgies, I've never had that happen. And, I've tried. As far as I know, none of my ABS friends who breed have either. But, try it. What have you got to lose? Let us know if it works. I hope it does.

At any rate, welcome, again.

Oh I only have 1 pair, but they are really thinking about breeding.

They have mated about 5 times, unsucessfully.
They might lay eggs soon because Lily has been visiting the nestbox countless times and Billy always regurgitates to her when she's in there. In fact she's in there now! She's moving the wood shavings around and making herself comfortable!

I hope she does.:D

Oh yes, what a coincidence!

I'm david in Seattle and I have two two month old budgies, Nakata and Gris-Gris.
Nakata is aggressive at times and will sqwuak and peck if Gris Gris gets up in his grill a little too hard. But Gris-Gris, whom I believe is a female, is very sweet. She's more gentle and calm. Nakata is tough and he'll hog the food dish, too.
To anyone out there who only has one budgie - and i hope there aren't many of you unless you give it good company - they certainly have different personalities!
But that's part of their charm.
Anyway, I feel bad a lot because I don't get to spend enough time with them.
Oh well
