View Full Version : Bailee
Here are some photos of Bailee for you! He's so friendly. When i got there he and all the babies in the process of weaning were flying around the bird room so the breeder got him down and he was more than happy to sit on my finger and shoulder. :D He flew around a bit and got too hot though, silly thing! Then the breeder misted all the birds so that made him a bit better. Anyway, here's pics!

I just wanted to add that the first pic is his real colour! He's a really pale creamy colour on his tummy.

Awe, Bailee is soooo cute! He doesn't look a bit scared.
I bet you can't wait to bring him home. What a wonderful Christmas gift! :)
The first photo looks like: A Bad Hair Day, ha! (Actually, I love it.)
The next 3 photos look like Bailee is smiling and loving the attention he's receiving, after being misted!
Let us know when you finally bring him home. . .(Not that I think you won't, ha!)
Thanks for sharing.
Donna
Thanks! :D I'll definitely let you know when he comes home! Just try and stop me!! :P ;) It shouldn't be long now - i reckon he'll definitely be here by this time next week.

Bea, we've all been hearing nice things about Bailee, Blinkie and Ozzy, but I'm just wondering how is Cookie doing?:D
Cookie is doing great!! :D She's currently sitting on my shoulder being flirt-attacked by Blinkie, he's in love with her. :P

I'm glad to hear that Cookie is doing great:). I know how she feels being flirt-attacked, but its the opposite over here. Emerson is the one being the flirt with the budgies.
Just thought i'd let everyone know that this morning i got the email i've been waiting for. :D Bailee can come home - we'll get him tomorrow afternoon.

He's a cockatiel like Cookie, just a different colour variety. :D Cockatiels can't be put in the same cage as budgies but they can come out of the cage at the same time to play. :) They're as popular as budgies in the pet world and are available almost everywhere (same as budgies).

because he thought he was a finch and got along with them well :) are they more money?
Yes, they are a bit more expensive than budgies. I paid $65 for Cookie and i'm paying $85 for Bailee.

Awww cant wait till the quarantines over and you show us pics of the first meeting, so excited, will be counting down the days, are you doing 30 days or 45 days xxx

Where I live they are around the same price, at one of the pet stores. When do you get him hun xxx
Tomorrow after horse riding - in less than 24 hours he'll be home. :D
Are they really the same price? Here i would expect to pay $5 - $50 for a budgie (depending on if it came from a breeder or pet shop and also depending on age and whether it was handreared) and anywhere from $10 - $120 for a cockatiel (again depending on breeder or pet shop, age, handreared or not but also colour). From pet shops i would say the "normal price" would be $20 for a budgie and about $50 for a cockatiel.

When I saw some I couldn't believe it myself but thats all they are here. Not sure if you would pay more for the pieds though only seen the grey ones. Bet you are excited hun. Do you have to quarantine him from cookie xxx

I only paid $40 here for Emerson from a breeder, and he is pied. I can't wait to see pics of Cookie and Bailee's first meeting after Bailee is done with quarantine.

In southern Ontario the going price for budgies is from 20 to 30 dollars, 25 being most common. I am fairly certain the price I saw on cockatiels is about 130.
Awww.. Bailee is so sweet, Bea!

Bailee is sooooooo cute!
Around here hand-reared tiels go for about 100$.
I'd love to own a tiel but my parents say that they don't like tiels for some reason :(

Any chance they are confusing a cockatiel with a cockatoo?

I don't think so... We went to a bird specialist shop, which was small and run by two people, and there cockatiels were hand-raised and went for 100$ for grey, 130$ for lutino, and 160$ for albinos, pieds pearls and whitefaces. It's similiar at most pet shops I go to that hand-raise them.

can i use a budgie cage an old white one for one of these birds ??????

Alicia, it depends on the size of the cage, whne I get mine I am for a little while because my old budgies cage is 18x18x36. Smaller then 18x18 is generally not allowed and im actually pushing it by using that one but its just for a few months until i move back to my parents place. Cockatiels are about three times the size of budgies. Bailee looks so small because she's still a baby. Budgies average 6 inches from tip to tail and about 30 grams. Tiels average about 12 inches from tip to tail and about 100 grams so you can see the size difference in them...
ANYway bailee is an adorable little lover! I hope to be getting a tiel soon, I'm going to name it Fiyero (fee-YER-oh) and im terribly excited. I hope Bailee comes home soon!
He's home and he's sitting on my shoulder taking in my brothers bedroom. :P Bailee is such a cutie pie!! I've taken some photos and will load them when i get back to my computer when i put Bailee in his cage for a rest. :)

Right now he's in his cage in my room, hopefully he'll settle in well. I'm going to offer him some rearing mix soon and then put him to bed. Cookie was AMAZED when she called for me and another tiel answered. :P She didn't know what to think and came straight onto my finger and jumped on me as if to say "my mummy".

aww thats so cute!! poor cookie! Those are absolutely adorable pictures! I want one just like him!! How old is he?
He's only 6 weeks old which is really too young to be weaned - however this is when this particular breeder weans them and i'll still be offering him rearing mix a couple of times a day just incase. :)

Nouba was 6 weeks when I got her... was that bad?
Budgies should be weaned by 6 weeks, that's normal. :) Tiels are usually weaned at 8-10 weeks.

Awwww..he's so beautiful!
Today his poos have turned really runny so i've convinced my brother to let him stay in his room for a few days until we've sorted things out. Things aren't going very well at all. As well as the runny poos he's not eaten a thing since i got him home. :( I've got a huge variety in his cage (seed, sprouts, sprouted seed, corn flakes, gum leaves) and he's not touching any of it. And now dad's told me he's sitting on the floor. :( If he doesn't improve today i'm going straight to the vet, we were going to go out there this week anyway to pick up some more pellets.

He might still be scared of his new surroundings. I hope everything turns out well.
