View Full Version : Lily may of layed an egg!!!
I went down stairs because my Mum called me and we wathched Lily go in the nestbox and sort everything out.
Billy was regurgitataing to her and she was in there for about 15 mins! Could she have layed and egg?
I haven't looked yet because I don't want to disturb her.
I'm so excited!:D
They both are in breeding condition to!
LoL! Y ou are so lucky just be careful because my budgie layed an egg 3 weeks ago and became egg bound:S and died:( but I wish you good luck!:)
You should gently tap on the lid of the nest box and have a peek. I hope she has! :D

I can't look in because she's gone in there again! Billy had a look a few minutes ago!
You should still be able to look with her in there. If you tap on the lid first she will quickly learn that tapping means someone's about to peek, she'll probably just hop out. It's important that you can check on her in the nest box.
She hasn't but she has been chucking some of the woodchippings out and she keeps going in there! Also her vent is rather big, I think she might lay this afternoon!

Ok well she's in there again and Billy is cleaning her head (Her head is sticking out of the box) They are extremely interested in eachother today ie: Preening eachother, eating egg shells and eggfood together, cleaning eachothers feet ect. I'm so hyper!

Oooh! Lily has just gone in the nestbox again! She kept on poking her head in and out! Then Billly came over and made this buzzing noise when her was regurgitating to her.
I don't know whether there are any eggs because she is still in there, maybe laying her first egg!.....
She has been shuffling the wood chippings and throwing some out. She has been eating loads of cuttlebone and attacking the mineral block!
Does anyone think she's going to lay an egg today?
I'm away the rest of today, tonight and tomorrow morning, but I will come on here to tell you if she has ASAP!
I hope she does lay an egg today! That would be so cool. :D

I have read that it takes about 26 hours for the egg to form but that is just what i read. I have never bred before so I may be wrong...

my bird ozzy is the only male... out of 7 XD lucky devil! How old must they be to mate?
They must be at least over 1 to breed.
I'm super-excited! I hope she does lay tomorrow!

If their last mate was sucessfull, Lily is due to lay an egg at 5.00pm GMT today!!!!!!
Oooh Lily has just gone back in , 5 times, without the cover on the cage!
She's in again!!!!!!!

She has been in the nestbox all morning! Sorting it out, throwing wood shavings on to the floor, ect, Billy has been looking in, maybe at an egg?!?! And they have been very noisy.

Not too long. I've seen a budgie lay an egg before. She looked really restless, went in the nest box and even while i was watching she laid an egg. Only took like 1 min from when i noticed her getting restless.
Oh ok, interesting... So if Lily gets restless, and goes into the nestbox, is it likely she's laying an egg?
Not always, i find that breeding hens are generally temperamental a lot of the time, lol. It does sound like she's getting close to laying though. Signs to watch out for are restlessness, swollen vent and spending LOTS of time in the nest box. All the breeding hens i've watched have spent ALL their time in the nest box, except to come out to go to the loo. The daddy bird should start feeding her almost all the food she needs....even before eggs are laid (although as this is the first time they've bred they'll probably not be as organised).
Well Lily practicly lives in the nest box and her vent is looking slightly bigger...
And Billy always regurgitates when she's in there, so... soon, maybe?...
She's been in there for about an hour! Just popping her head in and out, with Billy sitting on the perch, regurgitating to her.
She's out now and she's hopping all over the place!
No, now she's in the nestbox again, and out, on the seed perch, now she's on the bottom perch, now the top and in the nestbox again!
And Billy's regurgitataing to her, how nice.:rolleyes:
Aww she's got her head poking out!
Now she's chucking wood shavings out.
Billy's gone to the seed and Lily's getting worried because se can't see him, he's back up regurgitating, again!
Now she's out, preening herself. Phew!
And Billy is eating.:rolleyes:

Update: Still no eggs! But more mating going on!
I have just cleaned/disinfected the cage Dusty and Misty used to live in as a tempereral home for the babies until I get an indoor aviary!
This cage is HUGE!

Ok i went throuw the touble of watching a budgie die this weekend and i hated it. My friends budgie was well big looking so my friend thought maby she going to lay. after a while no eggs and on saterday she died to hwat is now belive to be a toumor. Have you had her cheacked over by a vet. i don't mean to freak anyone out but this is the only way i would do it. My two were cheak over and are in good condition but sonic is only around 6-8 months old. im pretty sure he is goin on nive months. I refuse to let them breed and the second i see anything light get vut and they get seperated. Im in no way ready for this. So i just wanted everyone to see this story as many may of already seen.
Oh no. That's terrible.
Update: Lily is frisky! Ooooh! And they've mated 3 times today!
They keep both going in the nestbox and they really love eachother!
