Ok hi talkbudigie world. I'm making a breeding journal kinda late... but that's okay.

So here's the dealio:

McGee and Ziva (the first picture) laid their first egg on June 01, 2009 and another one every other day until there were 4 adorable eggs. :D

Then on June 20, 2009, the first two eggs hatched! (yes, they hatched on the same day) The third baby hatched on June 22, 2009 and the last on June 24, 2009. Unfortunately, the biggest and smallest both passed on. May they RIP.... :(

However, the other 2 babies are doing great. I am currently handfeeding the 2 and they are getting big! :D The oldest, Chip (the third pic), is 18 days, and the baby, Peanut (the fourth pic), is 16 days. They are growing their feathers in and starting to walk really well. :)

Peanut (I think is a male) is actually more stronger and faster than Chip (I think is a female). He pushes and knocks her over and what not. But overall they get along... besides when it comes time to eat - but "competition is your greatest ally" or so I was told.

Anyway, I'll keep everyone updated on how they grow. I also have some videos of them on my YouTube page. http://www.youtube.com/user/ejally47 Feel free to check them out. Thanks! :D

Does anyone know what mutations the babies will turn out to be? I have noooo idea! I don't even know what kinds of budgies Ziva and McGee are. :S

Congratulations on the babies! I look forward to more updates.
Would need full body pics of both the birds to be accurate on their colours, but it looks like the hen is an Olive Opaline Clearflight Pied and the male a Cobalt Greywing? (I don't know his mutation, Greywing or Clearing or something..)
You'd get all greens, just normals, split for Greywing--and the males split for Opaline--if the hen is not split for blue. If she is, you'll get blues and greens. If the male is split for Opaline, you'll get some Opaline chicks.
The youngest baby is a female pied, looks like Opaline. The older one also looks female, and is pied as well.
Anyway, good luck with the babies as they continue to grow.

Lol oh gosh, I have no idea what all those names mean. :S I had an idea the male was a Greywing cuz I've seen another picture of one. But man, I guess I got some research to do. Haha but thanks so much for the reply and help!:) I'll try get better pics of the both of them and post em up. Heh thanks!!

That's great for you! It really is rewarding. :D Yeah that's normal behavior. They're just starting to get used to the nest box. Eventually they'll spend more and more time and then you'll have an adorable little egg! :D

Ok so the babies - Chip (20 days) and Peanut (18 days) are doing GREAT! They're growing more and more feathers in every day, walk really well, and definitely recognize us as "mommy and daddy"! They also can perch on our fingers as well. ;D

Today we noticed that they are growing in light BLUE feathers!! We're so excited! :D

Here are some pictures:

Ok so the babies are about 25 and 23 days. Couple nights ago I gave them some avi-cakes to try, and they liked it! After I fed them I gave them a little piece and sure enough they would take it and play with it in their mouths. Hehe so I put a little dish with some crushed up avi-cakes and they eat it all by themselves now! Ahhh they're getting so big. :') I'll post some vids I have in a bit. Til next time! :D

Ok so tomorrow Chip will make FIVE WEEKS! She is currently learning how to fly! She started flying at about 4 1/2 weeks. It is really exciting! But a little scary cuz we don't want her to get hurt! - she flies into walls a lot. But that's all part of the learning process.:o

Peanut, on the other hand, is as terrified of hands as ever. He likes to snuggle by you when you're sitting down, but flips out whenever a hand comes near. IDK why.:S:S But today when I was feeding them, he did his first fly/jump thing. I think soon he will start attempting to "fly".:D

I just moved them into their new cage yesterday. They are a little skeptical, but are slowly getting used to it. They're gradually beginning to explore their new home. Chip even figured out how to fly out when it is opened.:)

Here are some pics:

So the babies are doing really well - I feel like I can't even call them babies anymore, they are getting so big so fast. :')

New News: They both can fly! Chip is pretty good, she can maneuver herself really well and her landing is great. Peanut got it down quicker than Chip. He can fly high up, and lands fairly well. He just can't really fly downwards yet. Both know how to fly out of their cage, as well as back in. They are both eating big bird food and really like it. I tried giving them some veggies - broccoli, cauliflower, and lettuce - but they don't seem to know that it's food yet, however, I did see Chip nibbling on the broccoli. :D

Here are some pics!

This is from today, Peanut and Chip eating their breakfast at their own designated bowls.

The parents do feed them. However, the parents of these babies had mites and I did not want the babies to catch them as well, so we took them out and raised them ourselves. Thanks for the comment. :)

Lol it's okay. We all gotta start somewhere. :o Well, as babies, I fed them Kaytee Handfeeding Formula, which you can pick up at most pet stores. As they got older, around 4 weeks, I introduced them to "big bird" food, which is a combination of crushed up Avi-cakes and Nutriberries. They liked it from the very beginning and it's healthier than giving them just seeds. :D

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, I'd like to help out in any way I can, as I know how you must feel. This was my first clutch as well. :)

Thanks for the tip, I wasn't planning on taking the babies away from the Pixie & Hammy until weaned, I saw Avi-cakes on another journal too, I will try to find them in Aus if we have some babies surviving:D (We have 6 eggs in Pixies box 4 in Rainbows box & 2 in Crackers box only Crackers has stopped laying, When I am permitted i will start a journal on each of the pairs. I am keeping a list of dates on paper to remember, Should be about 8 days till hatching starts. I will probably need help then:o

Aww okay. That's good! Ooh best wishes to all your eggs! I hope they're all fertile and hatch. :) And you'll be able to find a lot of help on TB! It's the best budgie place there is. Hehe. :p

To those of you who followed us on this fun, memory-filled journey, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! This was my very first clutch of budgie babies, and my very first time ever handfeeding baby birds. It was so much fun, that I can't wait to do it again! :D I had so much fun and so much laughs, it's simply unforgettable. This has been such a great experience, and I'm glad I got to share it with you all. :) Look out for another one of my breeding journals, cuz I promise you, this won't be the last time! ;)

Big feathered hugs from us to you. Aloha!

Aww, really? Probably because yours are in an aviary with all the other older birds. My babies just have me and my boyfriend as their flock. :p So they're quite used to us. :D

And I'm really sorry to hear about the youngest baby. :( Do you know why it didn't make it? :(:(

Yeah ha I still grab them though and they are not as scared of me as the others.:)

And I think she was sick and was developing to slow, her sisters were all ready out of the nest box ans eating on their own and she was still not fullly feathered.

Hi! At first, it is a little tiring. :o I mean waking up every 3-4 hours throughout the night can get tiring. But when I look back on it now, it was soooo much fun!! :D Lol and it's totally worth it. I think all bird lovers should definitely experience it once it their lives. ;) It's a lot of fun, and it's really rewarding in the end. :)
