I seen a thread on here with a recipe for a soak mix, and I can't find it now for the life of me.

I'm a little concerned about the rice, is it safe for birds once it's been soaked and simmered for an hour?? I don't want to risk hurting my little boy blue.

Thanks for huting it down JGD

the rice is fine to simmer for an hour, you would rather it be over cooked than undercooked. uncooked rice will kill a bird, as it expands inside of them.

I should add, dont use black beans, i tried it last time & the whole mix came out a nasty grey color! they didnt care, but i thought it was very ugly! lol

ok, thankyou, I just wanted to make sure, and I used navy beans for the white beans, hopefully I can get him to eat it. :D

it might take a little bit for him to try it, depending on how easy he is to get to eat new stuff, but once he does, he will love it!

thats why its good to freeze into ice cubes, so it keeps for a longer time!

mine is definitely very HARD to get to try eating new
things, but I don't give up easy either. Hopefully he will try it and fall in love. :)

also, you will know when its going off, it will smell sour. dont leave it in their cage for too long. I add it when i leave for work at 730, and take it out by 330, but theres usually nothing left. Whatever falls thru the bottom bars is what smells when it spoils, thats another reason their cages get changed everyday!!! lol
