For those who remember, I installed a feature several months back that didn't work, yet I made an announcement on it anyway.

Well after the software upgrade, it now works. Introducing the helpful answers feature. If you come across a post that you find helpful, or if it's just a good post, you can give it a thumbs up. If you find someone added a rather bad post to a thread, you can give it a thumbs down.

This is all in addition to the Karma system. Since other people cannot see when a post is given Karma, they won't know how many other people found it useful or not. This system will let them know. So when you come across a good (or bad) post, rate it accordingly.

For those who use Youtube, this is similar to the comment rating system over there.

Also, feel free to rate the informational sticky threads as positive if they've helped you out.

One final note, you cannot rate your own posts.

Have fun!

I actually love this, and its a great addition to Talk Budgies. Now people can actually see which threads are helpful, and aren't. Thanks so much Dave! :D

What's wrong with them? They're the same as before, except without a username.

Sorry, I don't follow. What is the same as before? I don't mind a thumbs up for a good post, but I am wary of the thumbs down.

Oh I thought you were talking about the photo thumbnails at the top of the forum home. :P

I would love to suggest for the next update a way where we can embed videos into the thread instead of just posting a link. :)

i think that would be very handy.

For just Youtube or any video?

For just Youtube or any video?

well I think the majority of us use youtube and lets see, maybe photobucket? I am not sure if there are other video sites, maybe others can chime in with suggestions.

I like the idea Dave it encourages the members what is good from bad.

I agree with Pam0m1n0.. I'm not too fond of the thumbs down idea either.. I think some members would be discouraged from posting a reply by thinking they'd get a thumbs down..
but i gotta say i love Erika's idea :) i'm all for it :D

Oh so this feature is just like the THANKS option on the Linnie Forum.

Great addition, Dave!

I also second the embedding idea! Nick has it on the linnie forum and it's great!

I think David got rid of thumbs down because of people not posting as they would get worried about getting a thumbs down.

Personally if we have negative karma I don't really see how it is too different, but what harm.

Thumbs down was disabled for two reasons: first, people said some members (especially new members) might be discouraged from posting in fear of getting a thumbs down. Secondly, I figured it might get abused by people who have grudges with other people, or by, uhh *cough* trolls *cough*. ;) Which reminds me, it our daily reminder: DON'T FEED THE TROLLS. Someone you might not even expect could be the next one!

LOL thanks for the troll reminder Dave ;)
We sure have to watch out for these unexpected trolls who carry silly grudges

I like how it was disabled :) With negative karma you can see who gave it to you plus no one else would see it but with the thumbs down the person would feel bad that the whole TB community can see they received negative remarks for their post..
Remember guys :troll:

just wanted to add... i like how with the neg karma, you have to post a reason why, so it better be a good reason!
