I am going to start off by saying they are too young. Yes they can reach sexual maturity around 6 to 9 months but mentally not till they are a year to a year and a half. It is almost the same for a really young bird as for an old bird the can be complications.
It is better to wait.
OK now on to conditioning signs.
Hens: cere will change color, she will become more aggressive, shredding things more than usual, chewing on wood.

Males: cere will change color, doing alot of beak rubbing, doing a song and dance for their mate ( and I mean more than usual)

Hope this helps

I know that you have been doing some research on breeding and that is great. It will help if you have any complications. I dont know if you know about this web site but man it has helped me out and it is where my research began. It goes from what kinda breeding cage set up to everything to expect.

i find when my male comes into breeding season he cheeps more and does a little dance back and forth the female he is courting, regurgitating (cant spell) seeds and sticking one leg on the females back as if hes going to jump on her.
but thats just what mine does lol

LOL yep the dance just cracks me up. If you know the song from Rod Stewart "If you think I'm Sexy" Always plays in my head when I see it. I have to walk away because I start to laugh and don't want to give them a complex.

Dont be confused by the 'friendship' courting. A lot of people say "by male is preening the female, feeding her, kissing her etc, he must be in breeding mode". Males do this to almost every budgie they like. My males do this to an average of 3 or 4 birds each in my aviary. They dont have exclusive friends although i know they have a top female or two they prefer.

Males in breeding mode are a lot more active, they sing more, fly from perch to perch, do a dance where they run sideways along the perch (run all the way left, then right, then left then right or in other words away from the hen, back to the hen, away from the hen, back to the hen). When they kiss the female, they also focus a lot more on the head bobbing, their pupils turn to tiny pin point size and they can sometimes beak bash the female (looks like a headbutt). They will start trying to mount her too. Lots of changes that you will pick up on if you know your birds.

wow didnt realise that the male going left to right on the perch ment he was doing some kind of breeding dance or putting his foot on the females back ment anything lol i just thought it was just some kind of exercise he does like getting his feet moving or something. i now know what it is! thanks!

10 months is ok to breed with many of your worlds top breeders use birds of
7 months people used to say not till they get to a year old ,,when my hens reach
2 year old i sell them as the chicks are not as good as under 2 years ,,by the way if
your hen goes into the nest and wont come out to mate cover the hole with a piece
of card board by the time she has chewed through this she should have mated with your cock,,
