Hiya, Excuse my language but i really do feel like such a t**t! My dad has (well had) 13 budgies in a big aviary in the garden and he asked me to feed them, so i did, but somehow, without my noticed one got out, i assume when i went in but i don't know. The only reason i saw one had escaped was when i went over to feed my guinea pigs there it was sitting on a branch, and i won't repeat the language i used when i saw it sitting there.

I'm not worried about what my dad will say, as well yeh it was my fault, but it was an accident, i'm more worried about the poor little guy becasue he isn't gunna be able to survive long out there by himself.

i tryed to shoo him back into the aviary but he ended up flying out the garden. I've been all downthe street looking for him but i can;t find him any where and i know now its unlikely i'll find him but i wanna try. I'm hoping the sound of the other budgies will attract him back to the garden but even if it does i still don't know how to get him back in the aviary. I just want to know if anyone has
1. tips for gettin him back into the garden
2. catching him once he does

i can't leave the door of the aviary open because the other budgies will escape and oh i dunno, im just kicking myself!

any ideas no matter how mad i wanna know lol! i just wanna try and get him back!

Uh Oh! I've had 3 budgies escape in the past.

Are his wings clipped?

Have you got a bird table? If so put loads of seed or his fave food on it.

Once he's in the garden you could try to get him with a net or a towel.

Is he tame? If so try to come close to him and grab him in your hand, carefully.

I hope this helps!

By the way, Welcome to the forums!

P.S I never got my budgies back. One of them had a heart-attack and the other 2 went missing.

i'm not sure if his wings are clipped...im a complete novice to be honest only just started getting interested in them. we do have a bird table yeh, ill fill it with food. I thought using a towel would be a good idea, dunno why i didnt do that in the 1st place! I'll put food on the bird table, but we have a lot of wild birds in the garden like big wood pigeoens and doves that use the bird table, will they scare him off. but i'll give it a go anyway and keep my eyes peeled for for him.

i'm gutted, the 1st time im asked to look after them and what do i go and do, lose one.

She had a heart-attack because she was so scared.

Does your dad have a spare cage somewhere? If he does you could put that near the aviary and put lots of food in it. Peg the doors of the cage open and hopefully if the budgie is anywhere in the area it'll come back and go into the cage for food.

About your question to adding a new budgie. It would need to be kept separate for 30 days before being introduced to the flock to make sure it's disease free. :)

No you will have to put him/her in to quarantine for around 30 days before adding him/her. (He might pass an illness to the rest of the flock.)

ok, i'll try the cage with food, see if that works, and if i get him another one i'll keep it seperate for a month.

thanks very much for your help. i'll let you know if he turns up!

the cage with seeds in it worked every time in my stores. I've never done it in an outside setting, but it should work just as well. I am very sure that he/she will come back to the aviary and try to find a way in, so try putting it on top of the aviary :) good luck!

hope you can get the budgie coaxed back into her cage even if you can't be sure to leave plenty seed and water for your escape artist.
