Hi everyone! I'm new here, i found out about this forum from the hamster forum i belong to :D (those of you might know me as zirbo xD)

Ok onto my budgie, starburst. I guess i'll kinda explain how i got him xD

ok so he flew into the church daycare office that my mom works at, and they kept him in a box with wire netting over it some water and seed (budgies are not native to this area) and so we took him home for the weekend, and now he's mine =D that was back in may, and i was a little scared to tame him, but since julyish i've been trying to tame him (he's VERY skiddish) his wings werent clipped so sometimes he would fly out and bang into windows :(, but i just got them clipped on sunday, and a trim with his nails, which is great. anyways, i can get him onto my finger! and i try to tempt him up my arm further with some millet (he LOVES millet) but he usually doesnt get that far, yet.

So, any taming suggestions? i know for one that i need to put his cage somewhere higher, but at the moment i dont have anything to put him on (we're going to get a stand soon), but should i try anything else? let him venture out of the cage? i talk to him also, and he's usually pretty calm around me (unless i upright scare him) but he wont step onto my finger if anyone else is around

Ok, thats the end of my really long post =D
thanks for all the help!!

Give a little rub on the belly once and a while (bottom) and eventually he will step up to your finger. Patience is the key here. Talk calmly and rub, and this way Starburst will get use to you. We are awfully big to a budgie hun...just takes time.
I'm sure someone will come up with more ideas for you....but this little tid-bit really helped me with Willy. Try it.:)

He doesnt seem to mind me rubbing his tummy because he wont run away :), and my mom told me that birds like to be higher up because they can see their predators, which is something im planning to do soon

thanks for the advice :)

o btw, another thing i forgot to add, i never hear him playing with his toys. as far as i know, he only really sits on his perch, is it just because he's still nervous? he's not sick, but i was just wondering

Having the cage higher is no good sweetie, he needs to be at the same level as you, if he is above you then he will feel the need to dominate you, I know it sounds silly but its the truth sweetie. How old is he, does he still have the baby lines above his beak and cere, could you maybe post a pic of him, first of all start with placing your hand in teh cage as often as you can and continue to do this till he no longer goeas barmy, talk to him and playing music can help too, once he accepts your hand in the cage then you can try placing your finger near him, again do this daily and as often as you can once you have successfully done this then the rest will come.good luck and let me know how you get on xxx

He still may be a little nervous and adjusting to his new environment. My budgies didnt touch a thing in their cage until about two weeks after. What kind of toys do you have?

redgirl: right now his cage is on the ground, i dont have anything to put it on, thats what i was talking about ;), and he is stepping up onto my hand but he flies back when i take him out "too far"

about the toys i have a ladder hanging in the back (ive never seen him go on it) a couple mirrors, i think i might move it done to the perch he likes to sit on, a hanging toy that has hollow squares made out of plastic with mirrors on the sides (theres 3 dangling things) with a bell on the bottom, another hanging toy with things hanging off and a bell, a fake bird, one of those "caged" balls with a little ball inside, and another plastic perch higher up

i need to get a new wooden perch because one of them kept falling off of the sides of the cage (its out right now)

i hope you understood all of that :D
