How do you know if your budgie has mites?

The mite are very tiny to see. They are black or red and crawl in the cage and your bird/s straches alot.

Their are many different types of mites.

Yes, depending on the type of mites, there are different symptoms. Scaly mites show up as a crusty material usually around the cere, beak and even the legs/toes and vent area.

Other mites, like red mites, only come out in the dark. If you stick some tape in the cage (sticky side up), sometimes the mites will get stuck to it overnight which is your clue that they are affecting your bird. (Just don't let your birds chew the tape!)

The bottom line is, if you think your budgie has mites, bring them to an avian vet for proper diagnosis and treatment. Avoid using mite and lice sprays as those can be harmful to your bird.
