Hi all, my name is Debbie and my budgie is Bart, we live in Staffordshire, England. Bart is my 6th budgie he is yellow and green and is 18 months old, he is tame and can say a few things ie "Hello" "come on then", "what you doing".
I would like to know if anyone can tell me why he regurgitates his seed. This happens day and night, if he is in his cage or not, and can be quite a lot.
Thanks.

Hi! :D I'm new here too! nice to meet you!
they do reguritate a little at a time for their partner (which he most likley thinks of you as)... but if its as much as you describe, large quanities and "day and night" that kinda makes me worried... personally, I would contact an avian vet as soon as possible. good luck, I hope he's ok :( let me know what you find out.

Hi thanks for the reply.
I really don't think he's sick. He still plays, eats and drinks normally, but he does make a mess. I wondered if i was perhaps feeding him too much? or if he needed grit in his diet, which i don't normally give him.

I personally don't recommend feeding pet budgies grit. It really isn't necessary since they hull their seeds before eating them, unlike wild budgies who eat a much different diet and actually do require some form of grit. Check out the article in the Articles forum called "The Truth About Grit".
It is normal for budgies to regurgitate, but not all the time (I mean like after every time they eat). Your budgie is probably fine, but it wouldn't hurt to bring the little sweetie to an avian vet for a checkup. It would be nice to know how much your budgie weighs and to see if that weight is healthy. I assume your little one's poops look normal? Not watery or anything?
Oh yes, and before I forget, welcome to the site! I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do. There are a lot of great people here who share the passion for budgies! Yea budgies!
Hey Birdie 1! Welcome to the site :) .

yes yes!! like budgiekin mentioned, NO GRIT!!! I don't just recommend not giving it to them, I beg you! I've spoken with an avian vet about this and read numerous articles on it... the odd occasion is ok (i mean very very odd), but regular grit ingestion can cause health problems and even death!
are you feeding him fruits and veggies and bread and the odd bit of meat? cause these are important to their diet. I don't think not getting them would cause the regurgitation, but I just thought I'd through that in there, cause ya never know.
keep us posted :) and I'll keep my fingers crossed for him!
Welcome!
I'll keep my fingers crossed to!

Thanks for all replies to my query.
Barts not that interested in fruit and veg,:( an occasional piece of apple or carrot but not much, he does have a little bread when he shares a sandwich with me.
I WON'T BE FEEDING HIM GRIT, thanks for the tip, but i will keep trying with the veggies.
