Okay, we just got two budgies a few weeks ago. The yellow one (Chip) was SUPER sweet when we got her home. Totally loving & gentle. We could take her out of the cage with no problem at all. She would let my 3 year old son play with her & snuggle with her & she seemed to love it. The white one (Snowflake) was not so mellow. She'd come out of the cage, but not before having to chase her around in it for a while first. But she NEVER would try to bite us in this process. Once out of the cage, she was a tad nervous, but again, never tried to bite.

A few days ago, we went to take Chip out & he tried to bite me. It wasn't just a little peck, he was trying to cause real damage! Apparently, Snowflake took one look at the situation & decided to jump on the bandwagon. Now, they are both trying to bite us constantly. Not just when we try to take them out of the cage, but even after we have them out. Chip, the one who used to be sweet as pie, just bit my son's face today totally unprevoked. My son was just sitting still with Chip on his shoulder & she decided my son's face looked like lunch.

I don't know what to do because my kids are now afraid of them. We are being very careful not to flinch or take our hands away when they bite us because we don't want to encourage their behavior, but each day that passes, my kids become more & more afraid of them.

Why did they turn on us? How do I get my sweet little gals back again? :S

Are Chip and Snowflake both females?

My Edie was sweet as pie till I got Joley, I figured she didnt want to know us anyore because she had a friend of her own kind, however by this time I realised Edie was a girl and at the time thought Joley was a boy so I seperated them and things went back to normal, Edie once again loved me and my children but would still bite but I think she was just playing, when she was moulting that is when she went strange biting very hard etc, so maybe if you have them out seperately then your bonding wont fade away again. I now have a new budgie called Willow and after quarantines over I will still be having them in seperate cages and will only bring the mout together once a day and the rest of the time I will bring them out one at a time because me and my daughters have a really string bond with Skyla, she sits with us watching tea and is so loving and I do not want to lose her closeness, hope this may work for you too xxxx

I was told that Snowflake was a girl & Chip was a boy, but I think (by their ceres) that they're both girls.

We got them both at the same time, and we do take them out separately. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just telling you the situation. :)
You're probably right in that I should have them separate. I may try that soon, thanks for the advice!

It could also be a molt. Cuddles is the sweetest bird until he starts a molt. For the past month, he has been molting and attacking my hand whenever it comes near him. He's gradually getting back to normal now.

Yeah, Skye has been acting really strange towards me. When I put my finger to her, she bites it really hard, but when she's out of the cage, she's fine and loves me to bits. Lol..females are a lot more agressive than males, and especially durring molt.

Well, it's good to know that this will hopefully pass! I miss my snuggly Chip!
