Hi all
Haven't been on the forum for a while, so still catching up with all the posts.

Today, I just bought another pair of budgies, which I think are really lovely. Not sure of the correct names of the colours, but the girl is VERY similar to Sushi's budgie (in the pic in one of her posts) - a yellow-faced blue (not sure if it's called cobalt or not, and the boy is all white (albino) with red eyes.

Can anyone tell me how to judge the age of the albino, when there are no black bars on his head to get an idea? His cere is still very light blue (with a little white around the nostrils). The black bars on the head of the girl are starting to disappear on the front portion of the head, so although she is only small, I think she's older???

I'm having 'issues' with my digital camera at the moment, so cannot get a pic of them, but they are so cute.:)

The other pair I have are a very light grey, with white wings (male) and the female is a darker grey.

Also wondering if there will be "issues" if I put the new pair with the other pair. The cage is rather big (tall) - about 2ft tall.

Congratulations on your new budgies I bet you are thrilled they sound adorable, You can put them together after quarantine considering that they will get on though so you may have to supervise them first, as for aging a Albino I have not got a clue sweetie, many members have ino budgies so may be able to help you more than I can, would like to see pics sweetie xxxx

Well one way that I know, you can judge the age of an Albino Budgie is by it's iris:

All Red Eyes (0-4 months)
Very Dark Pink Irises (4-6 months)
Medium Pink Irises (6-8 months)
Light Pink Irises (8 months or older)

Hope this helps. If I'm wrong please feel free to correct me.:D

Thanks for that info. His eyes are very dark pink, so I'm guessing he's around
4-6 mths.

Also, someone else (a friend who used to breed budgies) told me that
as his cere is pale blue with white around the nostrils indicates that it's a female and that all albino females (no matter what age) usually have a mauve or purple coloured cere - is this correct? If so, it seems that I now have 3 girls & a boy LOL.

I've heard that somewhere that all albinos are girls, but I know that its a sex linked trait and also it is rare for an albino to have a blue cere, but it often occurs. knowing that I had two albino budgies. One was a true albino and the other was a dark-eyed clear, my true albino was also a female and the others I have seen in petstores had also had a white ceres.
