Here is Drake's cage, I know it's pretty small and is boring, but he'll be out of it once quarantine is done.

That was lucky. :) I have seen good cage not on ebay but they don't accept visa electron card. But today I have just recieved my pre-paid maestro card so will be able to order it in future. :D
But as for pet shops in the UK they seem to cater for birds but make their cages qutie tall and no so wide. :(

I have one like yours, but dont use it. The reason is because to have it that way, like the width it meens the door is on the side of the cage and it did my head in, plus it had one of those slide up doors and I find them irratating but its a lovely cage and those ones are very spacious xxx

It is a better cage then the two I use, its just that one little thing with the door that bugs me, and the way you have to have the cage otherwise the depth is long but not the width.xxxx

My cockatiel cage has slide up doors. One of both sides. Now if bluebell was in that cage she would find some way to get out. :o Nero is more contented in a cage that outside.

These cage setups are awsome. I don't have a budgie at this time, but will in the future when I lose my little canary, hopefully not for a long time. His cage is 16 wide, 16 high, 24 long and he zips around that cage like a little jet. It is actually a small animal cage with a non-removable grate so I have to clean it inside the cage. Sunny doesn't mind, he watches to make sure I do a good job and will jump on my hand to have a ride as I am cleaning. I know I will always need a bird in my life as I am looking towards the time when I will be alone and will need that companionship. So I am studying the budgie, looking at cages, and enjoying my husband and canary while I still have them both.:o

In Germany, we have a guideline from avian vets, that a cage for 2 budgies should have a width of at least 80 cm, better 1 meter.

The maximum bar spacing for budgies is 1/2 inch to avoid getting their head's stuck.

Your right it does get kind of messy but ther is paper under it that I change every other day. However unfortunately I have to put it back right ways, i need to raise it now that we have a cat so he cant get at them and the only space I have tall enough is only large enough for it vertical... :/ poor budgies, guess they'll just have to wait till I graduate and move home for a nice big flight cage... and some buddies to share it with lol :)

Hi Shaya,
That is not a "cage" that is a "mansion" for budgies.
Can you give us some more information on it?
Did you build it or did you buy it like this?
I have never seen anything like it in a store here, so I just wonder how your lucky birds ended up with such a "dream home".
Thanks,
Sigrid :budgie: :budge:

Thank you for your commendation!:)
I built the cage myself. In the stores here, you don't find anything like that, with the exception of the Double Finchhouse (http://www.zoo-versand.de/heimtierbedarf/voegel/vogelheime/sittiche/montana_cages_double_finchhouse.html) (sorry, I know, the link is german, but there you can see a picture of it). But that cage is very cheap...
So, I decided to build it myself...
I think it has some advatages. The cage is bigger than those in the shops (dimensions : legth 51'', depth 32'' and height 60''), it has a plain roof (that's a very good place for toys) and it has a large front door. Moreover, because it's a wood cage, I had the possibility to fix my bird lamp on the front...

Kei's is a California King cage.

And this is Sunshine's Pagoda from Petco(never get one from there again, they are much too expensive and I don't like to promote petco or give them any money because of the way their animals are generally treated). He's right at the front so the cage looks smaller then it actually is.

Thanks Guys, Actually I am getting another budgie, but I am having back surgery and I must wait until I am home from the hospital, and well enough to go shopping! I see the surgeon tomorrow to find out what he wants to do and when he can do it. With everything that I've been dealing with, getting a new cage was just what Peekaboo and I both needed! I was surprised too that he is still so friendly. I thought that with so much room and more toys he might ignore me but he still comes to me if I have a treat.

Wow! Y'all have such nice setups and show that you really love your birds. There are just too many good ones to name here. I am very uncreative as it relates to decorating. I can really learn from y'all! How do you know when a budgie will like this toy or that? I just pick up what looks fun I guess. I just bought my babies a pinada. They love chewing at it. I hope it is not dangerous for them. But I watch them like a hawk lol! No pun intended.... :D

You can tell they love a toy if they constantly play with it ect. My little Stardust loves her bath, so I keep it there all the time or she gets upset. Ollie loves his Hut. And Charlie, my conure, loves anything he can chew to pieces!

Hello folks, here's my budgies' cage. It's changed a bit since I took this pic. I bought it and first set it up in January of this year. There's more toys in it now. Summer and Winter don't have their flight wings because the breeder chopped them off before I had them, so that is why everything is low. (all three of my budgies are hens)
Does anybody know what the maximum number of budgies you can have in there (not that I'd want 10 hens hmmm I've got to think about that one  )?

I'm going to kind of guess, but as long as they are friendly, maybe one or two more besides the ones you have now. If two more, they will probably need some out of cage time. So probably five budgies max.

Laker's cage is quite small - 10x20x20 but he's out almost all say to fly around 3 rooms. I get kind of carried away .... but someone talked about changing their cages around all the time - we do too!
In the summer i put a cotton sun top on that is weighted down with glass beads.

I've heard not to use sand perches because it can hurt their nostrils when they rub against them and it also irritates their feet. Has anyone else heard of this? Also, using different diameters of perches is good for their feet.

I usually have at least one sand perch in their cage at a time. I don't put it in one of their 'fav perch places' (middle of the cage or the highest perch), and yet they will seek it out every once in a while to get a good beak rub. I don't think they would do that if it was hurting themselves. Not when they have cuttlebone and mineral blocks that they could rub on if they wanted to.

This is Boy's set up in the kitchen, he has his toy tree that he loves to sit in and play. I put bits of broccoli and carrot on there. I smeared a little bit of hard boiled egg yolk onto a branch the other day, he thought that was brilliant. LOL!! When he's upstairs with us in the computer room, he only has his cage to play in, no tree, there just isn't enough room. His door is open most of the time so he can free fly if he wants to. We spend most of the mornings in the kitchen where he can sit in his tree and "shout" at the wild birds outside on the bird feeder.

This is my main cage. My secondary is a little thing that is just barely adequate for two budgies with a lot of out time. I love this one though... it's large enough that they sleep up top, play all over and eat in the bottom - and all that activity keeps them pretty quiet! The plastic guard at the bottom is awesome at keeping in feathers and refuse too. The only issue I have is that to clean you need to unclip the 'cage' from the 'base'... but it's light enough to be a very small inconvenience.

The platform where they eat is covered with polarfleece as is the little platform at the top in back. It's bathtime, so the little bath with some lettuce in it.
Can you find the budgies? hehe. I really love the size of the cage, 21 by 25 inches.
They are adjacent to a window that now has places for them to sit and hang out. I am inspired to get some tree branches. What should I look for? I have an apple tree that needs pruning in the fall. Hope that will be safe.

Just wondering I got a couple of flight cages that I am going to tinker with this week and try to make one big cage out of so they have lots of room.:D the pics show the cage and whats on top!

Hi,
I'm new to budgie forums like this, but i had a question about the cage. I'm getting a little budgie in September, and I've been really worried about getting too small a cage for him, but i don't want to go to high in price range, so is it a bad thing to have a smaller cage? eventually I want to get 2 budgies, and have them in the same cage. will my budgie be unhappy if he's in a smaller cage?
I hope someone can answer my question.

If you shop around, you may find a big cage that does not cost very much. I have seen bigger cages that cost less than smaller ones. Don't get a tall cage, get one that is wide, that is what budgies like best. Get the biggest cage you find that you can afford. If the cage is too small, it is bad for their health and spirit. If you have to get a smaller cage, it will help a lot if you let them out and they can walk on top of it.

This is an old picture. I have 4 cages all together for my birds. This is only a picture of two I connected together. I am in the process of building a large pvc cage. I am going to make it 72 inches high, 80 long, and 42 wide. So they will have plllllllleeeennnntty of room to get around. Plus I am going to be in the market for more birds. I am getting the supplies after work today. I made my measurements last night. I am going to do a step by step post on the construction of the cage so keep your eyes peeled. But anyhow for now. Here is some old pics of two of the cages. There is a ladder that goes from the lower cage to the upper one. This is basically just their playground.

You guys all have such wonderful setups! My budgie lives in a rather small cage as of now, but I'm getting a new cage this week. I'm either buying a playtop parrot cage (7/16th bar spacing, so it's for a small parrot and perfect for budgies) off of craigslist, or if that falls through I'm going to get the Prevue Finch Flight cage from Petco. I'm off to go make some toys now! Haha. I love a budgie-centered life.

Before shipping & Handling it was $36.99 @ Petsmart's website, I was going to go to my local pet smart and buy it but they wanted $70.00 for the same excat one, Shipping was only 8.95 & thier was a surcharge of 8.00(for the weight)
Foster and smith also has it but it was just a few dollars more
I was surprised how big it actually was, pictures did not do it justice on the website that is for sure.

it is a great cage, in the pic of it on pet smart It looked to only be the size of the front of the cage in my pic ( from the start of the rounded part to the other side of the rounded part) but including both peaked roofs - If that makes sense lol
it was 70.00 at my local pet smart, doesn't mean it'll b that price at every ones, the town i live in LOVES to have high prices, NOW if my printer worked i could of printed out the ad from pet smart.com and including the shipping and i could of got it at the price it was on on their website
but i had no way to the store, so i just got it off line, i ordered it late friday night(around 2 am), they sent it out Monday( 8-13-07) and i got it yesterday after noon ( 8-16-07)
I wasn't expecting it to arrive until next week so that made me even happier :D

murphey118, I have the same cage as you do!!! I actually have two cages turned into a "budgie penthouse". I have the larger one which is the same as yours on the bottom and one size smaller than that of the same cage on top with the doors all tied open.
I think the cage you have is a great cage for two budgies but one thing you might want to think about doing is offering them playtime out of the cage by opening the swinging door and putting a few perches, ropes and toys on the outside of the cage. Also, you can add a playgym to the top of the cage for them to play on. It takes a while for them to get used to having the door open and they might not come out for a while or even days, but they will soon become curious and explore what is beyond the bars of their cage.
If you have any more questions about your cage or what you can do to create a more fun and exciting environment for your budgies, please don't hesitate to ask!! :D

08-29-2007, 12:20 AM
My cages are actually one on top of the other. All day when either my boyfriend or I am home to supervise, we keep the main door open to the bottom cage and have all of the doors on the top cage tied open so they can come and go where ever they'd like. I also have a twirly rope going from the bottom right of the bottom cage to the top right of the top cage. I also provide them with plenty of areas to stand with the use of ropes on the outside of the cage and other perches.
My budgies just LOVE their set up and actually spend maybe about 5% of their free time in the bottom cage, even though it's packed with tons of toys and other budgie favorites. They prefer to spend most of the time on the top of their cage. I'll post a picture below so you can see how my set up looks. I used to have a play gym on top of the cage but since they decided they would rather hide behind the play gym all day, I took it away and created my own little fun area for them.
I'll have to take some pictures of my new set up tomorrow but here is my older set up which isn't all that different to what it is now, except there are a few less perches and toys around the outside.
Do you normally let your budgies out for regular out of the cage activity without actually handling them while out of the cage?

I only have two budgies. Since we got them back in March and April, their living arrangements have changed dramatically. It started with just having two cages because we upgraded from the smaller one and it just grew from there. They are extremely spoiled!! Just the bottom cage alone along with a few outside perches and a play gym (if possible) is the perfect amount of space for two budgies.
The two budgies you see in the pictures of the cage set up are the only two inhabitants of the "budgie penthouse"!! All feathered friends are welcome to stop by and visit!!! :p

This is Billy's cage at the moment. I am saving and searching for a much, much larger one so I can add some friends :D

Billy is allowed free-flight of the budgie proofed spare room during the day, and his cage door is only shut at night.
I have just bought him a playgym and added a few things to it...

OK Ladies and Gentlemen. I have spent hours looking at every single cage on this thread and I have chosen my top three. Coming in at number three is............ CountryGirl68! Her cage can be viewed on page 7 of this thread. At number two is....................... roadsideexcoalition! This persons cage can also be viewd on page 7. And number one on my practical and amzing cage list goes to the amazing cage of......................... Cliff123! His cage can be viewed on page 10. I have also asked if he could make a video of his cage on youtube. We'll see what happens.
Everyone has pu t so much time and effort and money and love into their cage. It is great to see how much people love their birs. Its just like that saying: A bird is a man's best friend! ;)

Excellent pictures. I can't post mine. I tried but said it is too big. I am glad too see everybody taking care of their birds needs. I have six budgies now. I just won a budgie at the bird show last weekend.

He loves it, and still has free use of the room it's in during the day.
He definitely needs some new friends now....
