Hi,
My two little sweeties seem to hate me something serious.
They are developing scaly face, so I need to get them out the cage at least once a day in order to treat them, and it is a mission to get them out in the first place, and then when they are out they bite with the intention, I'm sure, of drawing blood. I know that the birds don't like to be restrained, but how else am I gunna treat them without restraining them. Is there any way that I could make "catching" them less traumatic, for all of us?
Thanks
Kim

Maybe use a small towel or a flannel to catch them, then you have less of a chance of being bitten. 2 of my budgies, Billy and Lily, used to be like that, now they are the same, minus the biting. To stop the biting, just hold their beaks down with your finger and say 'no' try not to scream or make a loud noise when you get bitten, or they'll do it again through being scared.

Good Luck with your budgies, and I hope the Scaly face clears up soon. :)

Did you just get them? It's not they hate you, they are probably just afraid of you, not used to their new envirorment. I agree with Amy. You'll probably need to use a towel or something to get the babies out. Put the medicine on very carefully. I'm sure they'll be confused as to what is going on! Good luck!

Don't be so hard on yourself, I bet you're birds dont hate you, they're just afraid, that's all! Skye lost a lotta trust in me when I had to give her meds. from a syringe! It'll take some time. SKye had to gain trust back in me, too. Good luck!xxx:p

I used a towel last night and they still didn't like being held, but I managed to get away with only minor bites. I also left them out the cage for quite a bit while I cleand it up, but they weren't impressed with me :S
I guess it will take time, I have had them for over a year, almost 2 in fact. They have had mites before and I had to treat them before, but they weren't so anti. I guess they were a lot worse the last time, and I am trying to nip this infestation in the initial stages...
Hopefully they will get used to it. A friedn said that it takes about 5 days for them to develop a habit, so we will see :)
Thanks again for the help...

You should just take one out in a time. ;)
And just be patient. ;)

Wearing gardening gloves will help keep them from biting you. By birds are ok being taken out of the cage, but when they need to be restrained so I can clip their wings, they bite as hard as they can. The gloves help a lot.

I don't have any budgies, but maybe after you give them medicine you could give them a treat? I do that with any animal in my house that is sick, and it really helps a ton, but I've never had a bird before.
