Hi,

I hope somebody can help. My 5 1/2 year old male budgie, Baby, was bit by my female the other day on the left leg at the rear. The bone is showing, but bled very little. I have been putting Neosporin on it for a couple of days now to keep it clean and promote healing. There has only been a slight decrease in the swelling on the skin around it, and no formation of a scab, etc. This has happened before, and has healed up using Neosporin. My female, Lemon, tends to get mean and jealous when it comes to getting attention, and sometimes she bites Baby a little too hard.

We really hope that a scab starts to develop to protect the bone and prevent infection. Any help you could offer would be great!

I thought about using liquid bandage on it, but it has alcohol in it, and the stinging might be too much for my little kid to take.

Please help!

Separate the two birds and get the injured one to the vet. Sounds like a serious injury.

Yes it does sound quite severe. Take her to see an avian vet, quickly.

I'm with Bea and Amy on this one. An avian vet visit is a must in this case. I'd hate to see your sweetie develop an infection, especially one that spreads to other parts of the body and potentially become systemic (in the blood).

So go to an avian vet ASAP! I hope it goes well.

He seems to be okay so far.....

What I was seeing was the tendon, not the bone......we have been regularly putting neosporin on it....we don't have an aviaraian vet around here, but he is sooooo stong and tough, he is acting fine, and it seems to be healing up, thanks for the replies/concern.

Have you tried looking up an avian vet here?:

I'm curious to know if you find one in your area, so let us know! :p

do not have the birds together,if your bird is that mean when it comes to attition it sounds like it is more protective of you then anything.
