Hello. Im new here and I have a question. Ive had a female budgie for about a year and she has a crusty looking or brown cere. Shes had it for a couple of months. I heard it can be caused by mites or has something to do with breeding season. I dont think its mites cause it hasnt spread to rest of the body but I dont if this serious or not. I have 4 budgies the same age and she is the only one who has it. Ill attach a file with the picture, sorry its not that good, but please input if you can. Thanks.

brown crusty looking ceres are normal for female budgies..:) it means they are in their breedinng condition..:)
and from the looks of it, she seems healthy (shiny feathers and beak)
she is one beautiful girl..:D

Welcome to TB :)
Don't worry :) it's not mites. She's in breeding condition and it'll go away in a few months (but some females stay with the brown cere) The reason why your other budgies may not have a brown cere is either because they are boys or their mutation doesn't turn their ceres brown :P.. Some females never go into breeding condition :P

Welcome:) Like Suenem said it is normal for her cere to turn brown. My girl has had a brown cere since she was one year old, and it gets really crusty during the breeding season.

Welcome to Talk Budgies!:)

The brown crusty cere is nothing to worry about. When females go into breeding condition, their cere will turn brown and crusty like that. During breeding condition the female may seem broody. After a while (not sure how long) she will come out of breeding condition and the crusty brown will flake off. The cere will then be smooth and lighter in colour:)

I am in agreement with the others; your budgie appears to be in breeding condition. (This isn't to say she should breed of course!) From what I can tell, her cere looks healthy. ;)
