Tags....?

What are Tags?

Tags are specific words that you can add to a new thread to aid in finding the thread if someone is using the Talk Budgies search function.

While I am creating this thread, just below this box I am typing in right now there is an option for entering up to 25 Tags, separating each with a comma.

A thread that is created with tags specified will have a small price tag at the end of the thread name. Placing your cursor over that price tag will reveal what tags have been added to that thread.

Talk Budgies suggests that all members use spell check when creating a thread, and consider an appropriate title for the thread. For example, the title "Help" does nothing to describe what kind of help is needed. Instead, a more descriptive title would be "Need help with budgie breeding".

The same applies to the use of tags. Key words can be identified as tags that will help a member or guest that is using the Talk Budgies search function to find a helpful thread on the topic they are searching. If my thread is about bonding, but I enter the tag as 'binding', then we all know the search will find all sorts of threads about egg binding, but none about trust and bonding! My using appropriate and correctly spelled tags will guide members and guests to my thread when conducting a search.

Tags are a great way for all of us to make the Talk Budgies search system quick and effective! Consider trying a tag or two on the next thread you create! It is quick, easy and you will find yourself thinking about your thread from the perspective of the reader. What words (tags) would someone use in the search function that if your thread were shown, it would help them?! How could your thread be tagged to make searching for it easier?!

Tag - you're it! :)

Yay, I was the only one who ever really used tags. Lol.

Here's an example of tags, for those who still don't understand.

If you were making a thread on feeding budgies vegetables, some good tags would be:
Feeding, diet, nutrition, eating, vegetables

Speaking of tags, I also think a tag-oriented is better then hierarchical organization of the threads. I'll explain: If I create a thread that talks about a disease my budgie has that is probably related to a food he is eating and I have a video of it showing a weird behavior.

Which forum should I put this thread on? Videos, Budgie Behavior, Budgie Diet, Budgie Disease, Budgie Health?
If I put it on Budgie Disease forum, someone looking on Budgie Diet will not find it even though it is, indeed, related to a diet.

I think it will be really good to allow a thread to be into multiple categories, or multiple forums.

What do you guys think?
