My Willy's wings are clipped, as I purchased him just over 2 months ago. How long does it usually take for the wings to be in flying condition:S My Coco was a lot easier to tame when she was flying. (for me anyway) I just wondered how long it would be before he would attempt to fly again and actually make it to where he was going? I have to add, that he did come out of the cage around the first week I got him, and when he tried to fly............ well, he landed on our nice plushy rug and started to explore..and stay away from me:( Will this first experience of him trying to fly and landing on the floor, deter him from coming out on his ledge and trying to fly again:S Please send me your thoughts and advice, as I don't want to scare him. :) I do leave his cage open every day for quite a while.....but he won't come out again:( Help!:budgie:

I am glad to hear that you enjoy your new budgie!!!

My Schnappi had clipped wings too when she was a baby. That's when she belonged to a boy who ignored her. When I got her at 6 about months, her flying skills were already pretty good. She could do short distances at a reasonable height. Some of the feathers had already been replaced with fully grown ones.

But I was amazed how long it took for all the feathers to be replaced. When Schnappi was molting at about 2 years old, I found the last cut feathers on the floor. At times I thought Schnappi would never fly as well as a a never-clipped bird. But I was wrong!

So, just hang in there!

Love,
Sigrid

All 5 of my Budgies had their wings clipped when I bought them. I bought my first 2 Budgies this summer and only one of them is flying "full speed ahead" right now. The other one still only flutters. So I guess the flight feathers grow back at different rates. I love seeing Niblet fly, but he goes so fast that it scares me. I am afraid he is going to do something crazy and kill himself. He has flown into the window once and the wall about 3 times. I don't know if it's safe to let him fly like that. I am about to clip the wings a little, just to slow him down.

Niblet is so funny! He appears to be showing off when he flies. He goes everywhere (in the only room he's allowed to be loose in) and he just looks so proud! :D It's like he's saying, "Na-na-na-na-na" to the other Budgies. :)

Thank you kindly for replying Ronsig. That's amazing that you found cut feathers after 2 years. Wow! Had no idea it took that long. My Coco (RIP):( also had clipped wings (female), but she was so loony toons to get out of her cage it was incredible. She was flying in no time. Patience I guess ah:S Thanks again.xx:budgie:

Hi Donna, thank you for your reply hun.:) My Coco was just like Niblet, you just couldn't keep up with her. She expressed the same composure as Niblet....saying "look at me everybody, here I am" "and now I'll go here", aren't I just amazing mom". What a show off. Well here's hoping something happens soon as I'm really missing having contact with my baby Willy.:budgie:
