Hi Folks

Just a question on what people think my Bluey might be doing. This happens only at night, so I can only assume that this means he is ready for bed. Around 8pm, or as it's getting dark out, he climbs up to the corner of the cage and sticks his beak over the cage bars. Like he's hanging on. But he just rests it there.

We just put it down to being ready for bed. It's at this point that we put a cover on his cage and bid him good night.

We are new to the Budgie world. I guess over time we will learn to read his behavior.

Cheers

Dwayne

Thanks Charliesmum. I think you might be right with sleeping. My wife just checked on him and she says he's in the same spot. So maybe that is exactly how he sleeps. We just thought he used the swing to sleep on, but he might just sleep in different spots. Thanks again.

Budgies seem to have the weirdest sleeping positions sometimes-lol I wouldn't worry,if he was uncomfortable,he wouldn't do it.

maybe you should move 1 of his branches to the corner then he might go on the branch instead if he doesnt nothing to worry about!! good luck!!

I think that's a great idea. Tomorrow is cage cleaning, so I might re arrange a few of the perches. I'll find a branch that's curved a little and place it in the corner.

Thanks

He's a funny little fella. Tonight he's on the swing, so I suspect he just finding the position that works best for him.

Mooch will only sleep on what I've called her "sleeping perch", its a thin perch a bit higher in the cage than her other perches and it's set at a diagonal. Every night, without fail, after she's eaten and had a preen she hops up onto this perch and nods off. I find her there every morning.

Hi, I think he might be ready for bed when he does that, I'm new to the budgie world too (horses rule!) but it sounds like a routine he does at night, my budgies always tweet in the morning and I think it's basically the same type of thing. I know this is :ot: but horses RULE and charliesmum's signature made me laugh heaps! It's soooooooooooo funny I cracked up!

My new budgie, Milo, does exactly the same thing! Whenever I switch out the lights he climbs to the highest place in the cage and stays there with the bar between his beak. It's very cute to look at but I do wonder why he does it. If I switch the lights back on or even a lamp, he climbs down back to the perch.

I don't think budgies can see in the dark so perhaps he's just trying to get the best view.

I imagine he'll stop doing it after a while. Maybe they're afraid of the dark! Also, most pet shops house budgies in glass/plastic. Bars might be a novelty ;-)
