I have had my baby Willy for 2 months now, and he's not much older than that. I put the little green bathtub (with the mirror on the bottom) filled with water, on the bottom of his cage. He just looks at it like he's afraid of it:eek: Has anyone got any tips on how to coax him to have a bath...or should I not be trying????

I really think they need to bath...am I wrong?:(

Just keep it out for him to splash in when he feels like it. Most budgies don't know what to do when you just set it there, and others that I've heard of, are even afraid of water!

You should be trying though. Try what i said and we'll see what happens. That's how i got Baby to take her first bath :)

My budgie is only just getting used to the bath, I have one that sits in the door opening, at first he used to just look at it, but now has progressed to sitting on the edge of it having a drink and slightly wetting his face. Hopefully soon he will hop into it, I think it just takes time so we'll have to be patient hey. You could always spray him with luke warm water.

i think the best way to get them to clean off is just to use a spray bottle thing. thats what i did with my birds. although i find its not really neccesary to give them baths since they dont really smell...

It took my budgies a while to get a bath, until one day I placed a dish of water outside the cage and caught them both taking it in turns jumping in and out, at the time I had lost my camera so was gutted that I couldn't take a photograph, so after that I just continued to leave a dish out everyday, I also mist them myself with a spray and thye like this xxxx :)

i have only had my budgie for about two months but he doesnt like to go in any sinks or baths. instead i take him in the shower with me (some people find that weird buy anyway:D ). he loves to sit at the top and watch me and he sings along because he likes the sound of the water:budgie: . near the end of my shower i make the water lukewarm and sit on the floor with him so he can run round me and he loves it. he slides through the water and sticks his wings out and has a bath so maybe this will work with your bird too.

Hello Susie T,

It was awhile before my first two Budgies ever tried to take a bath. And even now, my 3rd Budgie is really the only one that likes to take a bath at all. My 2 newest Budgies are so young, I haven't tried offering them a bath yet. A bath is NOT totally necessary, but is nice for them. As others have said - you can even mist them (don't aim the bottle right at them) and that will be fine too. I have found that all of my Budgies have liked the mist bottle.

I initially put a goblet of warm water on the floor (where my Budgies were playing) and finally after a couple of attempts, one of them jumped in. You don't want the water very deep, and they like to have enough room to spread their wings.

My 3rd Budgie LOVES baths. I offered her a bath when I noticed her trying to climb into her drinking water container that is hanging on the side of the cage. I actually opened the cage door (when I saw her trying to climb in) and I held up a planter-pot-saucer with warm water and she jumped right in. Then she started jumping in and out continuously to show me she was having a blast. She just couldn't get enough, ha! Now that I know I can hold the saucer up to the cage, sometimes I even place the saucer in or near the cage, and she loves that too. It's so much fun when your Budgie finally takes a real bath, but there are a lot of Budgies that just don't like a bath.

Try and give your Budgie a little more time. He just may "give in" one of these days. I always make sure the bath water is luke-warm but I suppose room temperature is okay, too. Since outside birds don't really have a choice, maybe they don't care what the temperature is.

I am putting a link on this post so that you can click on it and check out bath time for my Budgies. I know that Budgies like a bath container that is not slick on the bottom and so a planter-pot-saucer is perfect.

I hope you enjoy this link. http://talkbudgies.com/showthread.php?t=2384
