This was fast, I got the results in less than 24 hours since she died and only about and hour or so after I dropped her off. I stayed up late trying to get her box ready, not really happy with the result, but I realized that by bringing her down and putting her in the box just before I handed her over, it was kind of a symbolic burial. But I did ask if he could put feathers in it so I could at least bury that.

Any way, she had two coronary infarctions!! No tumours, the egg peritonitus was well controlled, so basically, it would have been the kidneys starting to go, depositing the uric acid crystals all over, which would have caused arteriosclerosis and then the heart attack. So lesson learned, pay attention to droppings, I think I should have been suspicious enough to have them checked out for kidney disease. Paradoxically, (I didn't ask the vet) it might have been all the times she was antibiotic that it was too hard on her kidneys.

I found some pictures of her in her glory days, before her chicks, here they are. She was beautiful in her youth before the lump that wouldn't go.

Thank you for sharing the results of the necropsy with us Dianne. I can't believe she had two infarctions. Who would have guessed?

Once again, I am so sorry about your loss of Budgie. May you have fond memories of her that last a lifetime.

I am glad you were able to pinpoint so you don't have to keep guessing. There really was nothing you could have done to foresee this happening. Are they not able to return the body when they are done?

I'm glad you did this Dianna, i'm sure it will help provide closure for you even if you did have to give up Budgie's original burial plan.
She lived a happy and full life all thanks to you :)

Budgie's pictures are beautiful. You'll never forget her.
I suppose in the long run you were better off knowing what really happened than speculating.
Closure is very important at times like this.
Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I'm glad you got some answers; it can be strangely comforting at a time like this. I did foster a bird that died, in essence, from being over medicated with antibiotics and the various body systems started shutting down. The bird had come in several years earlier through a quarantine station, and had apparently been treated, prophylactically, with antibiotics on a number of occasions. When things started going wrong, they went wrong fast and it started with the kidneys and liver, and then a massive heart attack.

Yeah, I have been wondering if the same thing happened to Budgie. She had been on antibiotics quite a few times in the last couple of years because of the egg peritonitus, but in her case, it was a toss up, die without them, die with them, I think it must have gone wrong fast as well, I hope. But it is good to know and I am glad I had it done. The only thing I am wondering now is if I had removed her eggs at the 21 days or so instead of trying to wait until she gave up on them, she may have not been weakened and maybe would not have had the peritonitis. I don't know if that would cause it, but perhaps it did. I will feel better when I figure out what lesson I can learn from this to help take care of the rest.
