I have 2 new young bugies that are having a hard time getting trained. ive had one for 4 days and one for 3. the one i got first, peanut, was kind of afraid but after a couple hours of sitting there i could get him very easily onto my finger in and out of the cage. the second one, george, was the weirdest thing, when i get him the store person caught him with no problem, on the ride home he was completely calm, and when i took him out of the carying cage he just hopped on my finger with out hesitation. but now when i put my hand in the cage the seem to get a little worried, which is kind of confusing because they both didnt seem to be afraid of me at all before. i can get them on my finger one at a time after about 15 or 20 minutes of trying, but the very first chance they get they fly off onto the side of the cage or a perch or something. im confused as to whether leave them alone for a couple days and let them calm down, or keep trying to get them used to me and let them know that im ok. maybe if anyone else know if there is a better way to train them?

Not to be rude but you should have tamed your first bird before you got a second. It is much easier to train.

It is a normal thing for them to be a little warry of new surroundings. Let them settle in a bit, talk to them and put on some music and stay by their cage. That is the best way to get them to trust you. 3 and 4 days is pretty early to take out a new budgie, so they're doing what all budgies do on their first day.

Cutting their flight feathers makes taming very easy and If you want them to fly, then when they're tame and they molt, you can leave them.

hope that helped!

I find leaving them for a few days to settle and feel more comfortable before I trained my 3, also I did'nt start with the finger on my 2nd budgie for a while, I got them used to the cage first and get them used to my hand going in and out of the cage, then I would place my hand near them till they didn't feel threatened and would stay near my finger, Joley was the longest to tame. xx
