View Full Version : Convincing Mum......*maybe*
Well i now have two choices. For xmas this year i want a friend for Cookie. After worrying about it for ages i asked dad, he mocked me for trying to pull at his heart strings (with the classic "but Cookie's soooo lonely" line) and said yes. ;) Dad's great!! Now the choices i have:
1) Try to convince mum
2) Try to convince dad that we can sneak another tiel in without mum knowing!!
I prefer option (2) cause that way is likely to be less stressful. But i thought i'd ask for opinions on how to tug at mums heart strings and get her to allow me to get a second tiel. It's important to keep in mind that:
a) she dislikes animals
b) more than she dislikes animals, she dislikes animals being in the house
Personally i think if she wasn't so anti-animal she would realise that Cookie has affected her 0% in all the time she's been here. She lives in my room and doesn't pester everyone with swooping and food stealing like the budgies do, lol! But i'm not certain that she will want to see that, she's fighting a continuous war on inside animals (excluding the dogs....basically only MY animals). Anyway, i'm now determined to get Cookie a friend because i think she'll be heaps happier that way and will come out of her shell a little more (she's pretty laid back and gets so happy to see me when i get home), so it WILL happen somehow....hopefully with choice (2) as mentioned above, lol, but some tips to help with choice (1) would be handy too, if they're good enough i'll try it! ;)

Mu mum is the same as your mum by the sound of it, we had pets when we were growing up but when we got to a certain age she didn't like animals in the house, I would go with option one though because she may feel deceived if you get another one without her knowing..good luck hunni xx:)
We got Cookie without her knowing btw, lol! Either way she has a hissy fit over it - option two she has no say in the matter and so the hissy fit doesn't last as long. :P She's almost blind aswell so sneaking one in without her knowing is an actual possibility (as with Cookie) not just a stupid idea. ;)

Goodluck Bea, I can't decide for you. I hope you get what you want. I know what it's like trying to ask parents.
Some are easier than others. :p Note no offence all the lovely parents here you do a great job. ;)

I say go with number 2 lol. If you keep asking your mom will probably get really annoyed with you and she will just have an automatic response every time you ask..."NO!"
Either way it's pretty risky but at least you have your dad on your side. Good Luck.
Once he said the only animal i would allow in the house (other than fish) was a budgie, I wouldn't stop. I had to beg my dad for Mavish 2 weeks straight. It really wasn't fun and my dad got mad everytime i tryed to sneak it into a conversation. So after 2 weeks of begging he finally got one.
Although i begged him for a bigger cage for about a month and he never bought it...:p

My dad is the one that doesn't like pets in this house. My mom says no but eventually caves in. I want a budgie or a cockatiel.. not quite decided yet. But my mom I think would be more willing to let me get a budgie since the cage is smaller and can be hung up. With the cats, and being a mom to a toddler a bird cage is likely to get knocked on the floor if on a stand or something. :)

my dad is like your mom lol.
but my opinion is go with number 2, because if you do ask her and she says no, and if you stil get the bird then she can still get mad at you for like disobeying her. where if you go with 2 then she cant get mad you cuz she never said no.. but she also dint say yes and if she complains you say you 'forgot' to ask her lol. or say oh but dad said i could so i assumed it was alright with you too.
oh or you can try and get your dad to convince your mom to say yes.grownups to grownup generelly work better.

When I wanted a hamster I went off and asked Yahoo Answers to persuading tips. :p lol
They told me ask first and if the parent says no ask why and then if it's still a no then go away for a while. I did and my parents talked when I was upstairs about it.
My mam called down and I had it, in some cases it can be more difficult and not always a postivie answer in the long run.

My mom is the same way. She does like pets, but only if she knows them. She only likes dogs but we can't get another on because we go on vacation atleast 10 times a year. I always have to ask my dad if I can get something, but he always says the "well I'll talk with your mother about it" line...which makes me not get it. That's why i only have 3 pets right now
Luckily, When I have the pet and she gets to know it better, i can get more of it. I remember for my birthday, my parents were getting me guinea pigs and she hates rodents, and then a year after I had 6 guinea pigs in total (2 was the babies of one!)
