I've noticed some people aren't logging out and just clicking X and exiting.

Then when you view users online it isn't true because some people aren't actually on Talk Budgies.

I thought I'd just mention this to encourage you to actually LOG OUT!

I always log out, but some of you don't!

Thank you for reading.:D

If you disagree or have anything else to add please feel free to reply.

What's the point in actually logging out though? I don't log off any of the forums i go on...

Amy

Well you are still in the 'who's online' bit viewing whatever you were before you left.

If there wasn't a point, the button wouldn't be there.

So please log out!

I've noticed that you in particular hardly ever do it!

I never log out of websites, unless I have two usernames and I want to log in on the other one. (For example, if I'd want to log on under the testing account on this site.) For people who don't log out, their username will only remain on the active users list for 20 minutes after they close the window (without logging out). And actually, in a way, this is good because it makes us seem mroe active, even if we're really not... But let's keep that on the d/l. :P Of course, everyone is free to log off too if they wish. As you said, that's why the link's there.

I do not log out because I get tired of logging in everytime I want to go to the forums.

Bea

If you aren't active for more than <20mins then you will be logged out. I think.

Bea

Here's an example: if you're on the site, and leave the computer for 20 minutes, it should log you out. If you check the "remember me" box, this might not happen. If you're active on the site, it will not log you out after 20 minutes. It's 20 minutes of inactivity. Also, after being inactive for 20 minutes you're taken off the Who's Online list.

Oh yes that's what I should have said. Ooops sorry Dave!

That's just how the forum software works. :)

This is mad!! The whole point of the 'remember me' button is so you dont have to log out. There is no point in logging out, whoever is not on-line will appear off-line, what does it matter anyways :S

I don't usually log out either. I know that my banking sites will log me off/ make me log in again if I wait too long for my next action. Ebay has an option to click saying keep me logged in until I logout. And yes, that means you can go back to ebay and you are still logged in, even after you have shut off the computer in between.

I guess I assumed that when the window was closed or I had left the site that I was logged off and when I returned I was automatically logged back in using information in the cookie. :) I thought this was so handy and about the only reason I even accept the cookies from this site. :)

Frequently, I keep a window open to this forum although it might actually be a while before I look at it again. Gotta keep an eye on the budgies. :)

If this is a problem I will try to remember to actually log out when I call it a day.

Yeah, as far as I know it will keep you logged in for quite a long time (I'm not sure of the exact amount of time).

I did an experiment. I had my computer turned off and then checked the forum from my son's computer and it did not show me as being active.

I have also noticed that when I log out I have to re-enter my username even though I had ticked the remember me box. So my guess is the remember me box means that I do not have to sign in again when I come back to the site and not that my username will be auto filled into the username box.

But still, I have been logging out more often, since someone asked nicely. :)

By logging out manually, that will usually override the "Remember Me" checkbox, because checking that is what keeps you logged in. And you will only remain logged in on your computer, since that is where the cookie is stored. We have two computers in our network at our house, and if I'm logged in on one computer, I won't necessarily be logged in on the other. (Also, if me and someone else are browsing the same forum site on the two computers, we can both be logged in under different usernames at the same time even though we're both in the same network.)

And just for clarification, not logging out does not keep you on the who's online list. I've gotten the impression that some of you may be thinking this. The who's online list is separate from staying logged in. After 20 minutes of inactivity (whether or not you choose to stay logged in), you're taken off of the who's online list. I guess a better name for this feature would be the "active members" list, since only currently active members are listed.

What cookie? Aha! A computery cookie! Lol, sorry for asking!!!!
