I know that budgies do not have the color red, but I saw this and wondered. Is this a budgie? It kindof looks like an oddly colored tiel without head feathers....??

It could possibly be some other type of parakeet species but I have no idea! It's looks quite a bit like a budgies doesn't it? :S

I saw one at the pet shop yesterday, when I bought a nestbox, and it was trying to unclip it's seed container! It had one side off, but couldn't get the other one off! :P

They are nice...we call them Rosey Bourke Parakeets here in Canada... or Rosey bourges for short. They are really peaceful ussually and can be kept with other birds.

How do you breed those Joey, because they look just like a budgie, same beak and everything.x

They actually look nothing like a budgie in real life. I'm not sure if they're easier or harder to breed than budgies. The rosy bourke is a mutation, the species as a whole is just bourke parakeet

Bea they are really gorgeous, that picture really looks like one but I have seen the yellow parakeets and you can tell that they are not a budgie.xx

opps missed this thread

they are Rosa Bourkes, I have two. They are a little harder to breed than budgies from what i've been told by other breeders of them (we'll see next spring!) as bea said, they are a mutation of the Bourkes Parakeet. and no, they dont actually look anything like a budgie. They are bigger than a budgie, and totaly different flying styles. They are very peacefull, and have a beautiful chatter. Some people house them in an aviary with other birds, but a lot have problems doing that. Mine are in their own cage. They scare very easily, and can die from stress quickly. they will loose feathers at the drop of a dime!
Truely lovely birds!

I read that they are really dosile and calm birds? I've been reading up on them and they sound amazing. Are they usually really expensive? Some of the colors are just amazing.

Yes, they are very docile. the famales more than the males. the boys get yappy at dusk & dawn. they have a sweet little chatter.

as for price, i've only ever seen then at 1 shop in my area, they wanted $100 each! when budgies go for 15-30 depending on how "fancy" they are.

I found by breeder, and got an unrelated pair for $120
