Here is the situation. The nest box in in a square cage not a lot bigger than the nest box. I leave the door open so the parents can come and go. Budgie won't poop in the cage or box. The cage is sitting on a filing cabinet that is pretty much the size of the cage, so there is good drop to the floor.

Now that the chicks are getting out of the nest and exploring and at least one of them can climb the bars, I am worried about the chicks falling and the cage is old so I would rather not have them in that cage anyway.

Can I move the nest box into a bigger cage or should I put something to catch the chicks if they fall? My preference would be moving them. The chicks are now 26 and 24 days.

are they still going in & out of the box? if so, give them a few more days, if they are totally out, go ahead & move them.

my last clutch, they were in & out, but mom took over the box again wanting a new clutch as soon as the last baby went out for its first adventure. they still wanted back into the box, but mom wanted none of that! so the box went bye bye. mum still kept being a **** so she ended up being put back in the aviary and dad took over caring for them.

Yes, they are still going in and out. Chiclet has been doing wing flapping for a couple of days now. Both chicks have tried food. But Chiclet had to beg for quite a while before it was finally fed today. Chiclet was trying to eat seed from the feeder but I don't know how well it was doing. I see Budgie doing more of the feeding than Oscar does, I am thinking that taking the dad away might be better in this case.

But my question had more to do with moving the whole family into a larger cage.

I was thinking on the lines of separating them so they don't breed another clutch.
