I can not tell you what it is but I do know that if you ever find any strange lumps or growths you should take them to a vet ASAP to get it checked out. That is my only advice. Maybe somebody here will know more about it. Good luck.

I agree with blueberrybuns, see a vet. Could you give some more details of the lump? Maybe we could guide you. :)

i don't think i worded my last one very well. it is not a lump, it appears to be a feather that didn't grow properly. i have been doing some resaerch, and have you ever heard about bloodfeather?? i'm not sure if it is common in budgies or not. it is nice to have you guys to discuss this with.thank-you,:budgie:

Ahh, blood feathers. That's different. There's not much to worry about now. Blood feathers (also known as pin feathers) are simply new feathers growing in. Just make sure it doesn't break otherwise it will bleed. And that wouldn't be good because budgie blood doesn't clot like human blood. I'm sure everything will be fine (pin feathers are rather common), but keep an eye on her to make sure it doesn't break.

And for future reference, if you budgie ever does bleed, the best way to stop the bleeding is to put pressure on the source of the blood with a cotton ball. Putting flour on the cotton ball helps the clotting process even more so keep that handy. If in doubt, call your vet.

Hope this helps, and I hope to see you around! :D

Hey Chris. Welcome to the site. :) You probably should have created a new thread, but it doesn't really matter. If you've never clipped toe nails before, I advise you don't. Take them to a bird store to get it done. Because if you cut the wrong way you'll break a blood vessel, and that's not good. So your best bet will be to take them to a bird store to get them clipped. While you're there you could ask them how to do it yourself.

Claw clipping is quite easy if you are very careful. Put the bird in your left palm on his back. (Right palm if right handed, of course.) With him enclosed in your hand, simply place his leg/foot between your thumb and forefinger. Hold the foot/claw up with a light behind it. You'll notice the vein in the claw. Using a nail clipper, carefully clip the claw but be careful not to clip too close to the vein. I've done hundreds this way. Some tame but most wild breeders. The trick is putting them on their backs. That calms them down. If you accidently clip into the vein, have styptic compound handy. That will stop the blood flow. Remember, a budgie only needs to lose three drops of blood to go into shock.

A blood feather is a new feather and the blood supply will run out once the feather is completely developed.

Not very long usually, a few days for the normal feathers but a bit longer for tail and flight feathers as they're obviously larger so will take longer to grow.:)
